    Need some bong help here

Yeah I'm not big on the Slider/Carb thing. My first one that I bought had a carb and now I almost exclusively use sliders. But that's more circumstance than preference. I do want to point out though that you don't really see high end stuff with carbs on it.

one of these days I'm going to have to take a photo of the collection.

My only thing about sliders over carbs is that with a slider you get a more even airflow from underneath while the carb has just a little narrow column of air so sometimes you have to work just a touch more to clear it.

As for small bong vs big bong:

Small bongs are the best, noone is going to hit a small bong and complain that it wasn't a big enough hit. You fill the chamber and continue to pull until the end of your comfort level. With small bongs I'll clear the chamber with one breath. I have a big acrylic one that's like 2.5 feet tall. Getting THAT filled is a major breath in and of itself let alone clearing it.

You just seem to have more control over the smaller ones.

My personal fave is an 18" Liquid filled top (to balance). Not a very large chamber to fill but it's really quite strong and I put a diffuser downstem and ashcatcher in it.

Some advise is crushed ice. Throw ice in a blender and you won't get that bubbling sound but the coolest thickest most comfortable smoke of your life. Some people like warm water but I'm an ice guy.

If I had the salamander, I'd name it Geico. I just ordered a vape on ebay and I'm going to name it something ridiculous probably.

How exactly are you having problems cleaning it? Why do you need to clean it at all? Does the stem get too clogged to pull through?

If you cannot clear it completely then you will most likely have difficulty clear any decent-sized bong, I'd suggest that you consider buying a pipe.

If you are desperate for water-filtration then get a bubbler, which is a tiny little bong-pipe that is no trouble to clear.

But seriously, why is cleaning your bong so vital?
You need to clean it cause it fuks with taste. Smokin some bluberry and it tastes like some tary hash burnt hair thing is not good. I think glass on glass is the only way to go and a slider or pull bowl is also the only way to go (no stale hits).

If you're looking for something with an ice catcher, maybe look at a Roor?

You seem very well knowledged in the field of bongs I can only hope my ownership will enlighten me so!

I do think I'll be using crushed ice, and snow (we have a fucking abundance of it... i just want to smoke it all away)

The only reason I will be .0001% disappointed if the bong does not come with the salamander, is because the name I want to give it is totally dependant on that little critter...

I wanted to name it Commander Coriander, from Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin really likes this book called "Hamster Hughey and the Gooey Kablooey", and then much later in the series, I have this memorized, he says "The literary world is abuzz with Maybel Syrups sequel to Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooey! We have to buy it, it's called Commander Coriander Salamander and 'er Single-hander Bellyander"...

Commander Coriander is a Salamander, so if it came with the spider I'd hav to think of a whooole new name!

That's a pretty cool name actually but I'll be honest with you, there's really only one way to name a piece...

Use it like it's going out of style and THEN name it. Be sure to write it down ;-)

So after reading this thread over it seems the best thing to do is get a small glass bong with a slide. Thanks guys, you really help!

Now I just need to find one that fits my style.

that's actually an overly simple view of this issue.

A small bong is NOT the best thing for everyone. It's great for a beginner who wants to be able to take small hits and experiment with larger ones.

I think you should get the bong that is just the right size for you. If you like big deep rips or several clearing rips, a larger bong is better. The process of clearing a larger bong by using multiple tokes will get you FAR higher and use far less work (IE lighting and pulling)

Also, aethetically, larger bongs are nicer. Small guys are cool and great to experiment with but there really is something to be said about the "art" bong, the one that stays out so people who come over look at it and say "my god man, that's a nice bong"

So if your primary concern is rip size, go small. Remember, the right bong will just speak to you. Frosty the Snowman/The science experiment was really one of those "oh, look at that, it's perfect" though it's not as pleasing to the eye to everyone. I personally like the type that look like converted science classroom equipment because of the clean lines and perfection of surface. You may like the hand blown multicolor type as in the salimander.

The rule you really should take to heart is "only go as big as you're comfortable but you should probably go right up to that limit if you plan on keeping it around for a long time"
