Obama may face grilling on patriotism

There's nothing wrong with being roud of your country or your religion, but people who make a big deal of their religions or patriotic symbols generally come off as a bit sactimonous and holier-than-thou in my opinion, especially if they criticise you for not doing the same. This whole issue seems idiotic to me. It's like saying someone is not a good Christian because he doesn't have a "Jesus fish" on his car or he doesn't wear a cross around his neck. Being a good Christian or a good American has a lot more to do with what you do than what you wear on your jacket. I also object to the way the article said he "refused" to wear a lapel pin --- there is a big difference between not doing something and refusing to do that thing. I've never worn a lapel flag myself, but that does not mean I refuse to.

And what is the deal with the hand over the heart during the anthem? I was never taught to do that. I was taught to put my hand over my heart during the pledge, not the anthem.

Here's something I found on that topic:
Urban Legends Reference Pages: Barack Obama and the National Anthem

One expert quoted in the article says modern custom does not require a hand over the heart for the anthem.

This kind oof stuff is so moronic. This is one reason why I would never run for any kind of office --- the constant nitpicking about minor, isignificant chickenshit.
I agree with you in the end it is much to do of nothing. But there are lots of turds that will latch on to it, but yeah it's pretty insignificant, I really don't believe that of all the problems with Berzerk Osama that wheter or not he is a patriot is one of them. I am sure he really has the best of intentions and is probably a very decent human, as much as any left winger can be.

Yet not a single thread on, say, Mike Huckabee who wants to amend the constitution to ban all forms of abortion. Sorry man, but as of late you've been delivering some extraordinarily selective criticism.
This is the election season my friend and it seems that there are plenty of views coming from the left where I really don't have to cover it. Post up a thread regarding McCain and his views on Club Gitmo, torture, or abortion and I'll be MORE than happy to chime in with ya on it. As for Huckabee, why even bother.......at this point he's got a snowballs chance in hell of getting the nomination.

Ya know, there is another site I've looked at that has an administrator that feels that Conservatives are "trolls that get banned". Real nice to exclude 50% of the population from expressing their views without taking into consideration that they also have similar views in the fight for legal marijuana. It'll take action from BOTH parties in order for the movement to progress. LOL....I wonder how many grows some of these intellectual giants have had on their own.

obama alredy addressed the issue ofthe lapel pin. when the democratic primarys got into full swing this issue was brought up. he said somthing along the lines of it being a hollow symbol and that a pin does not make a patriot but actions make you a patriot

It's still a symbol and his comment regarding it some would find offensive. A patriot? LMAO.....he sure is:

im not quite sure about obama. i do think that what he has donethus far in the presidential race is kind of amazing. there are record numbers of young voters gettimg interested in polotics now that havent been there since the sixtys. you hav to at least give his campaign some credit for this. would these kids be as interested if he was not running? possibly but i dont think so my self. hillary sure as hell dont inspire the 18 - 30 year olds. butas far as him being a patriot.... i aint seen any actions of histhat i could call patriotic. what i was trying to show earlier i that this is old news that seems to be getting rehashed. i beleive that this is hillarys doings and she just cant dig up anymore dirt on him. it just seems that eveything she trys throwin at him he just kinda shrugs off with a smile ends up making her look like the jeolous kid on the playground.

i would like to see this presidential race end up being between mccain and obama. i would like to see mccain win but a defeat to obama i think i could live with. when it comes to hillary i chuck her off in the pile riht along side off mit and guliani, i just can seem to trust them too much. the ony reason i would not vote for mccain is if he chooses mit as a running mate. i would not vote for mit to be the local dog catcher.
