Quality hormone- I recommend dip-n-grow as by FAR the best bang for your buck.
Medium- You want something that is either sterile, or inoculated with beneficial bacteria. Rockwool cubes and expanding peat pucks are popular, and Rapid Rooters are WONDERFUL.
Tools- A pair of sharp scissors, like the ones you find in the makeup section for manicures. An X-Acto knife with fresh blade, or razor blades. If you plan to clone frequently, go for the actual knife. It's safer to work with.
Light- One clip-on desk lamp with the SMALLEST CFL you can find.
Spray bottle- This should be clean and able to deliver a fine mist
Humidity dome- Either a commercial propagation tray with an 'altitude' style dome (the tall ones), or a clear plastic storage bin with a lid. The lid will be your tray, and the bin, your dome.
Anti-transpirant- This is optional but VERY helpful. Wilt-Pruf or Anti-Wilt are found at florist shops if you don't have a grow shop or farmers supply. Wilt-Pruf is MUCH MUCH cheaper if you buy it as bulk concentrate.
Heat- Only if you cannot maintain a constant 70-78'F in your cloning area. Usually the top of the fridge is plenty warm, but if you live in a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath igloo in a nice subdivision (yes, I know there are some Canadians here heh heh kidding guys), you might want a 'seedling heat mat' under the dome.

All your gear will cost under $50, but the heat mats are another $25.

If your really on low budget you can do what I did for a Humidity Dome, use one of those plastic things that Wal-Mart chicken comes in....so far my success rate with cloning is 100% and i didnt know much about it when i started. Cheap Ez Humidity Dome. Thats my post about it, i use that, soil and Rootone hormone.

Sorry man I don't want to wait for my computer to open a bitmap file... jpegs work way better btw... you want very LITTLE light for clones. Just a 16w CFL is PLENTY.

Yeah those clear rotisserie chicken takeout things work mint.

sterilized scalpel !! OR a brand new razor blade.. either way, don't use scissors.. you'll crush the stem, no matter how sharp they are... If done right, scissors probably will work no problem but avoid crushing the stem all together by using a razor blade.

Start cloning from the bottom and work your way up..

Also, when you cut the clone, put it in water and cut it again on a 45 degree angle so that there is no air inside the stem.... do this while it's underwater then go from there to your rooting hormone..

Gel's work alot better than powders.. they coat the stems a bit better and generally have a higher IBA % (eg. Rootech gel has a .55% IBA and Stimroot #1 has a .11% IBA)

IBA = Indole-3-butyric_acid the active ingredient in rooting hormones.
Indole-3-butyric acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Auxin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DO NOT USE anything with a higher IBA of like .60% because you can potentially poison the cutting.. usually the higher the IBA the more it's meant for hard wood cuttings... like.. trees..

    Hope this helps.

heres what i do. i take a clean razor and cut the clone off underwater. then i stick the clone in a tall narrow shot glass filled with water. change the water once or twice a day. its worked for me 100% with many many clones.

Vitagrow works well for me. I used to use the gel type and tried this for a change. I let them soak for 15 to 30 seconds.

Really, I think they all work. I almost always have 100% success.

Light should provide 2000 to 3000FC for your plants.
