    All aboard the paranoia Train

I've yet to hear anyone getting busted over a damning IP address. I have, however, heard of people running their mouths elsewhere and bringing the heat down on themselves. IP addresses, internet pictures, and such may be of use then. Also, be wary of people who you might meet from the boards, or any that discusses relevant topics. I have heard of people who met undercover narcs online, then showed up to meet the narcs with a bunch of grass with full intent to sell.

Be wise when you're online. Don't post anything that you're not perfectly comfortable with the whole world seeing, including pictures of thousands of plants, your name, address, social security number, etc. It's common sense that revealing too much information about yourself is probably not good. And I don't trust proxies as far as I could throw one. Most of them are unreliable (unless you buy a subscription), and the feds can find out which IP you were using if they can track down the proxy site webmaster. If it's a reliable website, that makes it even easier to track them down.

Be safe, be respectful, and be quiet if you don't want prying eyes to see what you might be doing.

Then you must not be paying attention. It may not have happened on this site, but it has happened on many others that have been shut down (and shall remain nameless). When the feds come to shut down a site, they subpoena all records, including IP addresses. If youve got nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about. If you do, then you need to CYA. :smokin:

This site seems to be covering their own asses quite well, so I'm not too terribly worried. I also try not to say too much insinuating that I grow anything. If the feds want to bust me for offering advice, that's their business. I have lawyers I can call, and several of them are close friends of mine that I went to school with. Besides, my router allows me to assign temporary IP addresses to any device using it... and I rarely access this site from anything but my laptop. My home PC sucks ass.

Thanks for the warning, though.

Actually your router does something called NAT (Network Address Translation), and that really doesnt do anything to hide your IP address from a given website. Your external IP address still gets sent to the website you are visiting. The only difference (basically) is that they can only trace it back to your router, which is still in your house. (Thats not entirely technically correct, but gets the point across). Network address translation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Toke on!

As this guy said hes paranoid. Like really paranoid i dont like how people who arent very tech savvy take things so heavily first off a public proxy stores your records just like a forum would. As stated above your gonna want to use TOR if you want to be safe but i doubt you would ever get it running. I consider myself pretty tech savvy and i couldnt ever figure tor out nor would i care enough to figure it out as im not selling drugs online or something im jsut browsing a forum maybe id proxy if i was growing MAYBE.
