The reason for clarifying the butter (other than to help stabilise the temp) is it lasts longer. It's the milk/cream and other impurities that make it turn rancid. Always worth doing and doesn't take more than quarter of an hour.

Sorry, but I've got to correct that. Hash is NEVER 100% THC, the variations are usually somewhere between 15% to 60%, with the average being about 25% (some 'soapbar' varieties only have as little as 5%). So, allowing a 2:1 ratio is perfectly fine. The only exceptions would be for a highly refined 'bubble' hash, or a well made hash oil.
