    Air cooled HPS Light

Be prepared, I have lots of questions today. I turn to farmers here that have no monetary interest, and have actually grown a thing or two.

I purchased a vortex fan to air cool my grow room, forgive me for thinking this was a little fan that attached to my refelctive hood and get some ducting and I am done. So I bring the monster home after buying it a new shop sort of far away. Its no little fan, so I guess it does not attach to the hood, what have you used to air cool your grow rooms?

If I run ducting from my light across the room my vents for intake and exhaust sit behind a water heater so it wont be easy to mount the fan inside but I guess if thats how you do it then I will too.

Yesterday I went to purchase flanges or ducting from the store I near my home, when I mentioned I got a fan and how to mount it they basically suggested going to where I bought it and asking them. I am in sales I know I had that coming, but then she said air cooled is just a gimic and she wouldnt have sold me that unless I insisted. So I have this fan now, is it going to be a waste of money to even set up properly?

    Multiple answers to multiple questions!

Vortex fans are AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME and it's GREAT that you got one. The way to set it up is shown in the pics. The captions are tiny but you hang it outside your room, or wherever you can sink eye-bolts into studs, then hang it from thick ROPE, not chain, to make it quieter.

Run a piece of duct from the hood to the fan. The weight of the fan and of the hood should not be resting at all on the duct, or it tends to separate from the flange. You can secure it with duct tape or a band-clamp.

Go to home depot and buy a whole mess of the right diameter flexi-duct. It's simple to work with, albeit unwieldy, and you can usually affix it with a GOOD QUALITY duct tape.

What is air cooled, and is my fan supposed to hook to the light hood with ducting?

don't mean to hijack an old thread, but stinky... in that pic do you have a duct on the other side of that hood? or is it left open to pull some air from the room as well?

The hood is open to the room. Basically, the primary exhaust for the room pulls THROUGH the hood- 2 birds with one stone! lol
