no charcoal brickettes (unless your planning on lots of crushing, still then I don't think that its as good), and no kitty litter (unless you want your weed smelling like it), spend the extra bux & get the right supplies, and you'll be smell-free.....:wtf: -- look at petco or similiar for large boxes of fish-tank charcoal, or call a larger-aquarium store that sells salt water supplies and get a 50lb bag. -- :rasta:

I purchased one from Ebay and it was a bit more than I was hoping for. Its loud and not bedroom closet friendly. My first plants are almost done if I don't find a better method for relieving the smell it may be my last.

when you say fire place do you mean a wood burning stove? I believe you can use the coals in this case but you have to get a lot of them in a small size, it's all about convience i feel. The market filters work well and the filters sometimes come with a fan attached. Both ways to get a filter will work

You need the 'good' stuff. It comes from mines in Austrailia. I'm using a 8x20 mountain aire filter. Been running for over 4 years and never a smell in attic.
