Pre Employment Testing experiences
I've recently accepted a new position, went through the criminal background check and reference checking. Hiring person said I was good to go and I have a start date two weeks from now(to allow for 2 week notice at current job).
There has been no discussion of testing to this point. The handbook that I was given mentions that a medical exam MAY be required and would be paid for by the company. I kind of wish there was one, as I am testing clean now cause I've laid off for 3 weeks, on top of being a very light smoker. Seems to take me about 6-8 days after a 2-4 hits from a hitter.
I am to meet with the new boss 2 weeks from Monday to start. My question is concerned with the chances of a test coming up between now and then, or even shortly after I start. I would assume slim but I've seen some anecdotal evidence of this on other forums.
I'd prefer to end my sabbatical sooner rather than later and I've got a show to go to the weekend after I start that I definitely want to partake for.
Any opinions?

More and more companies are doing pre-employement drug tests now. I think I would be causious and wait. I would think that there literature would state whether they do drug tests or not. You could always pickup some synthetic urine just in case.

When can I blow the all clear? Giving me one after I start would be considered a random, wouldn't it? Don't they have to make you aware that you are subject to randoms?
The only thing mentioned in the literature(for my specific department) I've read is that a medical exam MAY be required. My boss hasn't made mention of that. I asked him if he needed anything else from me(hint, hint) and he said no.
In the literature for the drivers for this organization does make mention of testing(random as well I think) but I think that is required by Federal law.
I can definitely wait till I start but would love to smoke a little for the show the Friday after I start.
I'm not sure I could do the whole subbing thing, I'm a pretty nervous/guilty person as it is, not sure I could pull it off.

It doesn't sound like they are going to UA you but are you willing to risk the job if they do? I would just play it safe for while till your sure.
Subbing isn't that hard. And we're all nervous the first time we do it. Thats why you practice to make sure its going to go right.

I guess there is no harm in learning how to sub just in case...

I would learn to sub. I was randomed once 3 days after I had done my pre-employemnet UA.lol You just never know. I think its rare but if a certain job is really important just educate yourself and be prepared. Its a real crock to lose a job because of something you do in the privacy of your own home.

They do have to make you aware if you are subject to randoms but here is my recent experience with that. I took Killer's advice and subbed, much easier than you would think btw and since you go by Tia I will assume you are female so that gives you many more options on where you can stash the sub. I wore stove pipe slacks and knee high boots, got a head pad with an adjustable wrap to keep the temp good and no one was any the wiser. I passed and got the job and while in the break room noticed a memo on the fridge advising that as of x date everyone is subject to random. Basically pulling names out of a hat once a month. That is the only notice I ever received. Stocking up on synthetic now so when and if it happens I won't have to stress. Good luck on your test and if you want any tips and tricks for stashing from a female point of view holler.

Pre Employment Testing experiences
update...
well I've been at the job for 2 weeks now. No signs of a test. There was no pre-empl UA and no mention of randoms as of yet.
Like I mentioned above, in this companies literatures for drivers(I'm not a driver), they include a consent form for a pre UA and randoms. This information was not made available to me and there has been no mention of any kind of testing in the first 2 weeks.
Like I said, I am not a driver but I do drive my own car from facility to facility for jobs(I'm in the IT dept), my best guess is the only time I might be tested is if I get in an accident while working.
What are your thoughts on this? I smoked last weekend and am testing clean again now, 6 days later. I also bought some QF just in case...I'd rather not carry it around in my crotch if the chances of a random are miniscule...thoughts?

Odd that they would do background check and not do a UA. If you didn't do a pre-employement UA then I would doubt they are going to do randoms. Sign any paperwork that said you would have to do randoms?
I would read over there employee manual to see if randoms or post accident UA's are done.
