Quick fix for Acid Indigestion
Anyone have any ideas?
-I've pretty much cut out alcohol, I drink maybe once a week. Sometimes I'll go two weeks without drinking. I do drink coffee in the mornings, but I try to watch what I eat.
It's been really bothering me the past 3 or 4 days, last night I woke up at 2:30 with terrible indigestion, so I drank a glass of milk and fell back asleep.
-I just want some quick and easy ways to subdue this painful thing. My doctor wants me to take Prilosec, because if I let the indigestion continue, I could end up with Asophogeal cancer. However, I really, really, don't like to take prescription meds like Prilosec. I just don't feel comfortable puting that stuff in my body.
So I'm asking you all, anyone know of any medicinal ways, other than prescription drugs to help me? Perhaps some mineral or spice? I dunno. I do eat Tums sometimes but those are only a temporary fix.Ghengis Chron Reviewed by Ghengis Chron on . Try catching your breath, and slowing down your diaphragm, before you smoke pot. Breathe eight seconds in and then eight out. Maybe, you're trapping too much air.

There are quick fixes, those are antacids, but like you have found out they are quick and temporary because they only neutralize acid that has been produced and doesn't stop further production. Tums and Rolaids are the least effect antacids BTW as you should use Mylanta or Maalox. Look for antacids that use magnesium hydroxide as the antacid instead of calcium carbonate.
There are 2 classes of drugs to stop acid production: H2 Blockers and Proton Pump Inhibitors. Both block the production of acid by the stomach but in different ways. In general the PPI are stronger than H2 blockers. Both are very safe drugs with very few drug interactions and side effects. Prilosec is actually available over the counter now and I think is still the only PPI that is available over the counter, in its prescription strength form no less. Then there are 4 H2 blockers that are also available over the counter as well as by prescription. Pepcid and Axid are the strongest in that class followed by Zantac then Tagamet. Some of the H2 blockers come as a combo antacid/H2 blocker so that you get quick relief followed by long relief. I would bite the bullet and try either Pepcid, Axid, or Prilosec.
Also, learn what foods can cause heartburn such as tomato based foods, spicy foods, citrus, chocolate, and coffee. You can go all out and elevate the head of your bed 18 inches. For most people, THC does not aggrevate heartburn.

Smoking of anything irritates your esophagus (the byproducts of combustion and the other crap in smoke), and cannabis, like alcohol, can contribute to relaxing your esophageal sphincter at the bottom of your esophagus and entrance to the stomach, which can aggravate the reflux.
FBR gave you a good overview of the drugs that are available to you. Those are safe medicines--and they're a hell of a lot safer than letting your esophagus be bathed regularly in caustic stomach acid until it begins to form cellular growths to protect itself that can become cancerous. That's a sinister and easy-to-prevent type of cancer. Are you really saying that you'd prefer that and prefer to stay in pain rather than taking a pill?
Seriously, educate yourself and you'll see that the more you can do the prevent the problem, the better off you'll be in the long run.
The other things you can do are read more about GERD. You can elevate the head of your bed slightly. Not eat anything, particularly meats, greasy foods, spicy foods, or chocolate within four hours of bedtime. Lose weight if you carry any extra. Experiment with different sleeping positions.\"That best portion of a good man\'s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.\"
