To germinate your plants, just put the seeds between two moist paper towels and then put in a Tupperware container and then put it somewhere kinda warm, like on top of a refrigerator. Or you can just plant the seeds right in the soil...

should i put the lid on it and how long should i give them before i put them in soil? i was thinking till the taproot starts is this right?

I'm guessing you haven't made it over to the grow FAQs yet...

Keep it moist, not drenched. Warm, not hot (75-80'F). Plant when the tap root emerges but is not too long. Pointy end down.

Yes, you will most certainly want to put the lid on it. And once the root pops out of the shell, then you are ready to plant it in soil.
