20 wks Pregnant still smoking ADVICE PLEASE

    Hello all,

I am new to the boards here I am just seeking some advice. I live in CA. I am 30 years old. 20wks pregnant with my first child. I have been smoking since I conceived. Family and Friends are on my head with concern for my baby. I am a medical patient that needs to smoke to eat and to fight daily nausea. I have a rare condition called CVS (Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome) (CVSAhomepage, for those interested.).

I am struggling because they are all telling me that if my baby test positive for any substances when the child is born that the hospital has to report that to CPS and that I may not get to bring my baby home. This worries me but what do I about my illness and pot being my main line of life? I have yet talked to my OB about my concerns as she is out on maternity leave til April and I am due in June.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

    Thanks!!:hippy:

I would suggest a vaporizer for a start. Vaping eliminates the carbon monoxide that creates much of the risk in smoking cannabis. I smoked (before vaporizers) through both of my pregnancies. My boys are both brilliant and have the correct number of fingers and toes.

I did take vitamin E- the US Navy insisted, back in the 60s and 70s, that their submariners take it daily because they functioned better with it under low oxygen levels. My Dad was one of them, and he took it for the rest of his life. He said he could feel the difference. It is also supposed to make your skin "stretchier", which will be very important to you when you give birth, believe me!

Hon, you need to click the link below and scroll down to "Pregnancy", "Prenatal exposure" and "Nausea". Print up any articles you like and give them to the relatives! Might shut them up for a while! Heck, show them the WHOLE post! Might get them THINKING!

Keep taking your vitamins, especially E and Omega 3. Hemp seed is an excellent source of protein and Omega 3 - available at your health food store. Do a search on it! Lynn Osburn has an excellent article on it. - Granny:hippy:

I was taught by an old indian (super famous!) yogi that you could swallow the smoke and sooth your stomach due to the numbing effects, but just (you guessed it) not inhale. When you cough you swallow some and it makes you hungry - ever notice that?

I don't wanna say you should smoke - I know it would be better if you didn't... but harm reduction is good too, yes?

    Don't worry.
Here in Oregon, CPS will NOT intervene if you have a legal MMJ card.
If the baby tests positive at birth, you will get a letter asking you not to breastfeed while you are positive, and they may (very rarely) ask to test the baby a few weeks after it's born. If the baby STILL tests positive, then maybe they will continue to be involved, but in most cases, the letter is the end of it.
I doubt California is any different.
You should not worry about it at all. The stress of worrying is far worse than anything CPS can do.
Talk to a social worker at the hospital where you plan to deliver.

Yes a vaporizer is the best advice. Research show that no birth defects have ever been shown to be caused by cannabis.

I will start to use my vaporizer more often. Thank you all for your advice it has been calming and after speaking with my doctors office she said she didn'nt know much about it but knew that my child would not be taken. Especially, since i have a medical prescription for it. So that was soothing as well. Thanks again to all of you for responding
