    Light setup

I`m growing 2 plants and this is my setup.

    Veg - 2 blue compact fluorescents = 160 W (80W + 80W)
    Flo - 2 red compact fluorescents = 160 W (80 + 80)

    + sunlight

will i do anything with this?
and what about yield and potency?

    Light setup

Well... i have to say that fluros arent the best for late veg. maturation, and flowering off the bat. Red and blues are good, but expect to get 2 fixtures, and it's a pain to have to replace the light almost every day as the plant grows... Can you specify what kind of lighting time you are running? +sunlight? what do you mean by that?

Expect that you will be more dissapointed with fluros on the yield and potency, your best bet is to go with hps... ( its what im getting) because its a good system...You should have checked this site earlier for info what to buy ( personnaly, 1 month ago, growing was just an idea... Then i read about it, massed up some money for what im going to need, and i still havent bought anything... you should always consult a lot of guides, a lot of people, and chat before you do anything, because ive heard that first time growers amke a lot of mistakes, and i think that i have already cleared out most of my mistakes by learning how to make the plants happy and give them what they need, because i knew absolutely squat about growing plants or even growing weed a month ago... seriously the only experience so far i've had with plants is planting a cantaloupe in my garden, and i didnt take care of it so my parents had to, i was 10 though, so you should learn really more then you need to know to be prepared to when you have to deal with these situations, because if lets say your plant starts dying, and getting brown, and u dont know what the fuck to do, well your pretty screwed...) I first thought that Fluros were my best option for growing... because they are cheap and pretty easy to hook up... i was scared of any shit called HID, MH, HPS back 3 weeks ago.. i didnt know what the hell they were and i thought those systems cost like 500$+ so im like fuck that im taking fluros... so i finnaly went to a indoor grow shop that sold them... price is a bit steep... 300$... but hey... pretty good imo

Good reasons why HPS IMO is better then fluoro:
    1. Mostly Red Spectrum, v. v. v. good for flowering period... you can add just like 10-20 bucks to get a 410 ( 10 watt blue spectrum enhacned ) bulb that will help you out with your vege period
    2. The ballast coems with a fixture, ventilation system to get out that hot air that might affect the plants heath
    3. Lumens are incredible on it, most fluros i saw in the shop ( i saw a 135 watter, outpout like 5k lumens from what i could renember) Hps has a WHOPPING 45-55k lumens, that fucking penetrates and gives the plant all the lighting needs, except when it gets realll big and bottom gets a bit left out.. but im not planning to get them real tall
    4. since its excellent choise for flowering, id rather sacrifice the growth period, and spend more care on the growth, and then come with excellent 400watt red spectrum that will increase your potency and yield by a lot...
    5. Built-in reflector: main purpose? concentrate the light on the plant. The ballast comes with this really nice crafted sheet of foil that reflects all the wasted 180degree light and concentrates it on a plant, instead of wasting it lighting your closet... you can put foil around the plant too, for added intensity, renember this, PLANTS NEED THEIR LIGHT! its curved too, so it makes the concentration even better. You dont have to mess around with putting foil in the back of the fluros and fucking around with some soda cans... sure it costs a lot less... what about the less creative like me? eh?
Then again, it has its disadvantages...
    1. Costly, a lot more then a few fluros, although 80' watters must cost quite a bit with the fixture anyway.. im not totally sure..
    2. Heat may prove a problem, if you do not ventilate it properly with a fan
    3. HUGE, you need a pretty big closet to hold the ballast i want to get, it weighs quite a bit too... but sacrifice that for better growth... i think its worth it.
    4. I think you need some fixtures to hold the huge ballast... ill probably drill it to the top of my wall closet, and make it hold somehow...
5.Energy consuming... 400 watter can drain some electric bill, like 20$ a month for 1 hps, so if u buy a lot of hps, your bill will rise, and electric companies will soon be on your ass... but i think 1 wont make much of a difference... ( im with my parents, so they have to pay for the electricyty )

So as you can see... i think ive learned quite a bit on lights... try www.overgrow.com/growfaq if you have further questions on lighting, its a great site for this kind of explanation
    Cheers

    Howdy robert,

Yup..it'll work..but if ya could git some higher wattage cfl's,it would be even better..last time I used one of them thar funny lookin bulbs,I put it in a clamp-on reflector,to focus and maximize the light. Just be sure to have a way of removing heat and bringing in fresh air,if ya can.

    Have a good one...
