I think you probably did a pretty good job. Sounds like you followed the instructions very well.

I think the redish brown color is probably from the rum. If you use clear grain alcohol, like Everclear, it's more green. But rum has a brown color to it that gets more concentrated as in boils down.

I have a couple suggestions for next time. It looks like there was still a bit of a "bathtub ring" of sticky brown stuff left in the glass. That may contain a lot of THC. Next time I would suggest washing that down into the cup as you heat it. If there is any sticky residue on the glass, be sure to get it down into the liquid.

It looks like a lot of the liquid boiled away. If that happens, it's ok to add a bit more 151 to keep everything dissolved. I like to capture everything out of the weed, so I usually do a second extraction. After you strain out the first bit of liquid, keep that aside, and put the weed residue back in the cup. Add some more alcohol to the cup. Wash any residue on the cup down into the liquid and maybe heat if for a short peroid of time --- doesn't need to be as long as the first extraction. Then strain out the second batch of liquid and add it to the first one. This captures any THC left in the cup and any left still absorbed in the weed.

How much are you planning to take? Whatever you do, don't drink it all in one shot! I usually try to figure out how many times the weed would have got me high if I just smoked it and then divide the liquid by that amount. It varies depending on the weed and the person, so you need to figure it out on your own. Here's an example: If you think you could get high 16 times on your 4.3 grqms of shake, take 1/16th of the liquid the first time. It can be hard to measure out 1/16th of your 1/4 ounce of GD, so I usually add more liquor to bring up the volume to something I can measure. For example, put your GD in a measuring cup and add enough rum to bring it up to 1 cup. Then 1/16th would be a half ounce, which is something you could easily measure out. Put your half ounce of GD rum in a Coke or something you like and drink it on down! An hour later you should know if you had success or not. If not, have another shot.
