I've never tried tobacco but I'd venture to guess that the weed smoke is harsher without the filter. It's not necessarily the heat because even when I take a nice big bong hit with ice cold water I'll cough like a mofo. But I don't complain though, because coughing gets you way higher.

Coughing also isn't so bad... it actually makes you have a better high. When you cough you rip open a little tissue in your throat... when you take a hit right after coughing, the THC hits the area in the throat and is absorbed by the open tissue, usually giving you a somewhat better high than if you had not coughed... that's what i've heard about it anyway... and when i cough when i smoke... means i'm getting pretty high... and that's always a good thing

i hardly ever want to cough anymore....how long you been smoking? the only time i wanna cough is when it's really harsh....other than that i can take a decent sized hit and hold it pretty well

somsone up there why your so much more likely to cough from bud than cigs. cigs are smoked in a completely diff manner. ive never seen anyone rip their cigs like it a joint, and if i have, i bet they coughed.
