coughing is a reflex that occurs when something is in the throat that shouldnt be there. hot, harsh smoke will trigger this.

Yeah, but why are you 100 times more likely to cough on weed than a cigarette? After all, cigarettes are much more harmful.

alot depends on the marijuana that you get, some varieties if grown right provide for a very smooth and enjoyable smoke. While on the other hand, i got some cali red bud one time, and the littlest hit would sort of expand in your lungs and make you cough rabbits, great high though
