Smoking and the inability to urinate

Hello everyone, I am new and have been having some physical problems lately. Hopefully some of you can shed some light on what has been going on. I will try to explain this as quickly as possible without making it too long.

I have been smoking for about 4 years and the last 2 years have been very regularly. (I'm 22) In the last 3 years and actually the vast majority of the time that I have smoked I have smoked out of a bong/bubbler.

I was always good about taking breaks until recently when I found a very regular hook-up. Before, when I would smoke, I would smoke daily usually multiple times and when I ran out it would usually take me anywhere from 1-7 days to get my next bag. As a result I was taking small breaks which I know are important to do. When I found this regular hook-up back in July, I went the entire time without taking any sort of break more then 2-3 days. Not only that but during most of that time I was smoking pretty much all day everyday.

A couple years ago I discovered how good it was to smoke and masterbate/have sex.

I actually stopped smoking and masterbating because it was too difficult to pee afterward. Several months ago, I started hacking up a lot of phlegm when smoking. It got to a point to where it felt like I was killing myself because I was coughing so much and I was spitting up so much mucus. It got a point where I literally felt I was endangering myself with smoking.

Not only that, but over the last 6 months... maybe even longer smoking marijuana has started to make me pee a lot. Basically I'll smoke and 5 minutes later I will have to pee and I will pee a lot when I go to the bathroom. Sometimes I will have to get up 3 times in a 30 minute period and each time I will pee just as much as the last time without having taken in any fluids.

It started getting to a point where the urge to pee would get so bad that I couldn't even pee and I would have to sit down and wait some 15-20 minutes to just get my urine flow gong.

On New Years, I took an oath that I would cut back immensely on my smoking. I did it because I wanted my lungs to heal up. When I was telling my therapist about my condition he said I had sinusitus and that I needed to see a doctor. I had gone about a month without any smoking and for 2 days I suddenly got a lot worse and was coughing up phlegm all day. That weekend I smoked and it felt like I almost killed myself. I then had to go to the bathroom and was barely able to pee. The next day I wasn't coughing up nearly as much so that was a relief. I smoked again the next night and it felt much better and peeing wasn't nearly as bad although my urination was quite frequent. I have since smoked one more time and my coughing isn't that bad but the urination is still a chore.

Has anyone else experienced any of this. I already know what my problem is regarding my lungs. I am fairly certain that I have an upper-respiratory infection. My main concern is the urination because I don't see any of my smoker friends going through any of what I am going through and think there may be an underlying problem.

If it helps at all, I have been the most stressed out I have ever been in my life for the last few months. Thats my reasoning as too why I am still sick with the respiratory infection. But this thing with urinating has been going on for quite some time. It's only been about 6-7 times where I have had a really hard time getting my urine flow going but the frequent urination has been a problem for a long time.

Any insights. I am actually scheduling a doctors appointment very soon but hopefully someone can shed some light on this before I go to the doctor.

And lastly, I do drink a ton of water everyday but never drink coffee and rarely drink anymore.

your problem lies with the abuse of bongs. you need to lurn to respect the joint a bong is a thing you do now n then. i am suprised u have managed to do them for over 2 years i used to do bongs only untill i got to the stage where my breathing was poor i was always ill and tired in the morning and coulghing up mountains of green n brown crap. stop the bongs and just do joints. bongs are an acasional thing not to be abused!!!

u are probily peeing so much because i bet u drink fluids to help your throat drinking constantly will make u pee more oftern .......

want to do a search on vaporizers! Cleared my cough right up. Glad you're going to see the doctor! It's the smart thing to do when there is a potential for serious problems!- Granny

synfull... I totally agree with you on the thing about the bongs. I never really saw it as abusing bongs, because I have always known bongs as being the cleanest alternative to vaporizers. Lately though I have been smoking joints more as opposed to bongs, and it doesn't kill me as much.

Unfortunately, you are incorrect about the drinking water. I generally don't drink anything when I smoke and I keep peeing and peeing and its gets to a point where I'm like where is all this fluid coming from.

Storm Crow: I have never smoked out of a vaporizer but I have heard a lot about them lately. I will definitely be looking into that more.

Smoking and the inability to urinate

So I just came back from the doctor and he gave me a prescription nasal spray and told me to take my choice of either clairitin or zyrtec. Thats for my hacking/coughing.

As for the urination he took a urine sample only to come back and tell me that everything is normal. WTF?

He also took my blood sugar and that was also normal so no diabetes.

I explained to him the situation about smoking, the recent stresses in my life (there has been a lot), lack of exercise, among other habits and he came up with several conclusions. The first one:

He says that pot may be relaxing the muscle that holds urine in and contracting the muscle that lets it out. You obviously want the opposite to be happening. Hence, everytime I smoke it feels like I have to pee really bad and its hard for me to get my urine flow going. After I'm done smoking, I'm still a little messed up until the next day. If i smoke everyday which use to be the case then I will probably have a recurring problem. My question is What the hell? If what the doctor is saying is true then how come I have never read about anyone else ever having this problem, not to mention the various people I have spoken with who are also smokers.

He said, it may be a problem of an over-active bladder. I can possibly see this because for my whole life I have always drank a lot of water and have peed a lot as a result. However lately it is becoming a nuisance.

Another thing he brought up was the possibility of an under-active sphincter. We didn't really touch on this.

He said that the problem is most likely functional and not physical, although it may be chemical which I'm assuming is marijuana related.

He also said that those things combined with stress could be the cause to frequent urination problem.

I see my therapist on Monday who is an MD and we'll go over the results and we'll see what his thoughts are on it. I'm sure he's going to tell me to go see a urologist.

Smoking and the inability to urinate

At one point when I got really high I couldn't keep still cuz all my muscles just had too much energy. It was bad, like I was clenching my teeth together really hard without even knowing.

Then I became able to control it. I was able to stop everything in a moment. It was all mental.

Maybe your situation is all mental. And here's the interesting thing. 2 things made it worse: Thinking about it, and believing that I can not control it.

I think your problem is all mental. Just smoke fearlessly and know that you won't have any problems at all. That's the only way to stop bad highs.

BTW, I can never take a shit when I'm high. I'm just too relaxed to do so.

Smoking and the inability to urinate

This is an old thread, but it applies to my case.

I've been having the same problems for a while now. It started this past summer (2007) when I noticed that after I'd smoke marajuana I wanted to go pee shortly after and it was hard to pee. Sometimes I'd wet my hands and keep the water running to help me urinate. Went it seemed impossible, I got in the shower and that usually did the trick.

I'd pee a lot. Just like you said. I'd pee tons of urine and I hadn't drank any fluids. One time, I even ran a test on myself. I got out of bed, got rid of my morning urine, and smoked a bowl. I made sure I didn't drink any fluids at all, and it happened. I, as before, peed a lot.

Just like you, I have smoking friends who don't have this issue at all, and it frustrates me for having to go through this every fucking time I smoke.

Did you happen to find anything else about this condition?

Smoking and the inability to urinate

Man... it also happens with me... whenever im high is far more difficult to pee... i have to concentrate all my mind in the task of letting it flow... i think what your doctor told about one muscle relaxing and another contracting is true, at least for me... it would explain it, as i have a real hard time in relaxing the muscle which allows the pee flowwww... but when it does... what a relief it is... ahhhhh......... mmmmmm....... it an almost orgasmic thing just be there, pissing... :stoned:
