How loud is a Dayton 265? Is it a good fan?

Can anyone answer if the Vortex 449 is quieter?

Hmm... don't have a db meter handy.

Daytons are great fans, and handle static pressure very well. Great choice if you have a lot of bends in yer ductwork.

Vortex is quieter per cfm, but almost twice the flow. Flow on this blower will drop rapidly as ductwork becomes more baroque.

Either way, properly tuned, neither fan should be too loud. If yer ductwork is simple, go for the vortex. If it's long and crazy bendy, go w/ the dayton, or possibly a dayton 465.

Another thing to consider when buying gear is the warranty .
Both blowers are pretty close as far as noise goes , I've had both myself , but choose the sweet warranty of the Vortex , Hurricanes , and Ecoteks = like 5-10 yrs depending on the manufacturer .

At most I will have about 12" of ductwork, but probably not even that. I gotta sleep in the same room as the cab, so noise is a fairly big issue, but so is money. I like the price of the Dayton, but have heard that it is really loud. Have heard the same about the Vortex (mini jet engine was a common description of the 449).

I found a Vortex 4" 172CFM for pretty cheap, but not sure about it's noise level and if it would be enough for my setup.

2'x3'x6' cabinet with a 400w CMH (not nearly as hot as hps). Ambients never higher than 72F.

    Any suggestions maybe?

    Thanks!

If you add a short peice of flex ducting to the outlet of the fan,it will decrease the noise. Muffles it alot. You lose some static pressure as well as CFM's. As close as that fan will be to the job! It'll work fine.
