I believe both democrats and republicans milk the playbook as much as can without breaking the law. Hell both sides enter the grey area sometimes. For example, the use of the filibuster. Republicans used it often during the Clinton sex scandal, democrats cried foul. Then the democrats used it with Supreme Justice John Roberts was being confirmed, the republicans cried foul. The tactics are the same because of the election laws that shape them give too much advantage to these two electoral organizations. There has to be more parties that can churn different type of candidates. The pool isn't diverse enough. That's why I'm having a hard time choosing a candidate to vote for this year. All the final choices turned out to be weak.
