Imortant question about roots
Hello,
I had just started my plants about 2 weeks ago and the roots are in the water of the hydro system, but there seems to be a problem. There is brownish yelloish stuff growing on the calk i used to old down my tubing and the brownish yellowish stuff is on the roots also?? does anyone know what is growing inside there (fungus or algae?) and how bad is it for the roots?dougefresh Reviewed by dougefresh on . Imortant question about roots
What kind of hydro system is it? There should never be unaerated standing water in a hydro system. Please give some information about your setup. Pics would help.

Sounds about right. You REALLY need to be sure that your reservoir is properly aerated at all time. Scrub the bubble stone with a toothbrush to get all the crud off it before you hook it back up again just in case it's clogged. Check your lines for obstructions. Technically what you are doing is called DWC and there is a lot of good info for you in the hydro section.
You'll want to treat with peroxide. Look up threads about slime on roots in DWC- I think there are a couple kicking around somewhere.

Imortant question about roots
What type/color of rubbermaid tote? Even the darker ones will allow ambient light to permeate through to your nutrient solution. Water + nutrients + light = algae... and the more light, the more algae. H2O2 will work, like Stinky said, but you should also check out the excess light and see if it is a problem.
