2pac - Thoughts
A lot of people might hate me for this, but when I hear Tupac, the first thing that comes to mind is overrated. People are always on his nuts; him and his style represented the ghetto streets the most on the mainstream scene, more than most you'd see on MTV or on the radio, or anywhere else in the media.
Music aside, as a person, Tupac was a piece of shit. Already said in this thread, he was a very bright person. He had a lot of potential and could have done great things in his life. While he did choose to rap, act, and let out his creative side (which I do admire and enjoy), he chose to throw away real potential. His mom tried to bring him up where he didn't have to be tainted by the streets, but he chose to travel down that route. Don't believe me? Look it up. When he raps on how hard it is on the streets and all that, he had a chance to get out, but he chose to go out of his way to stay there.
I listen to gangster rap and enjoy it. I don't agree with what they all do and shit. But one thing is I realize where they come from. Most of them are a product of their environment. Most of them are born and raised in whatever ghetto they come from. I understand that they do what they do because that's the way it is where they come from. However, one thing I hate, is the people that AREN'T from that type of life and choose to go that route. Tupac is one of those people. I've dealt with people like that. They're wastes of life and IMO don't deserve to live. I think I'd get flamed by a lot of people for that, but really, it's the truth. Think about it.
Besides that, there's one thing that irks me about Tupac. People are so quick to praise him and say he's the best and all that, but really, how are you going to say that when you haven't listened to much rap besides him? There is so much other rap that doesn't get the appreciation it deserves. Most underground and/or gangsta rappers hate mainstream because it doesn't appreciate the music, it's pretty much whatever's hot.
Don't believe that? Just ask me and I'll start listing off rappers, albums, songs you can check out that are much better than Tupac's. I really appreciate the rappers that were born and raised in the streets and gave me an insight into it. And you see, THOSE are the people that I respect because while they might be stuck there, they're the ones that are TRYING TO GET OUT. Tupac was out, he had his chance, he had opportunities and potential, and he chose to go to the streets. Most real rappers from a ghetto are trying to get out and have never had a chance. Really think about this shit.
Gurtej05, hateful? Really, are you fucking serious? Just off the top of my head listen to "thug love" and "hit em up". You fucking tell me they aren't hateful.
And I'm not trying to disrespect anyone here, but this is how I feel on the matter.
