Trying to create a large grow box

Hey i've just discovered an empty room that needs some vegetation! I have use of a 6x8 ft room, and as smell is an issue, i would like to create a large (4x4x6?) box which can contain all smells/light.
I plan to construct walls with 2x4s insulation plywood and mylar, and piece them together to create a box. 1 side will be a door. Ive investigated the ventilation system, and i think ill be ok with passive intake and a blower/carbon filter venting thru a window via a dust running from the box to the window.
I figure sealing all the joints would make a fairly smellproof box, tho im not sure how to do the door yet.

Ive also never built a big box....assuming i can construct these walls, will it be too difficult to make a sturdy box i can hang a 600 light in?
Also, how many plants can i expect in this space, and how high should the roof be?

haha cheers to anyone that can help me out with some feedback, or by pointing me to an appropriate post/guide.

    Thanks!!

Trying to create a large grow box

Hey dude, Props. I'm up to the same thing as you in my basement, but more because of how dazzling the lights are - I have my computer in the same room, etc. I recently discovered some hardboard that is 1220mm x 610mm (4ft x 2ft) which I'm hoping will make an ideal box. As a door I have been planning to use a large Mylar sheet that can be velcrowed onto the top/bottom of the "large box".

It's a fairly simple job, I just need to decide on some bloody amazing glue to put the sheets together, or get some nails and wooden beems to hold the sheets together in a box like shape; I am not sure which to go with yet.

I also, when I have the funds or my friend lets me have some of his, intend to cover the panels in mylar in the inside to reflect back as much light to my plants as possible. For those where growing is illegal I'd imagine it's important to use the mylar as it would most certainly act as an anti detection material.

Anyone got any ideas re glue and construction types? Is there a post about this somewhere else that we've missed? ;-) I am sure it will help me as much as this dear chap,

    Peace,

If i were to create this, and use 1 600w hps light, any idea how much i can potentially yield (obv this is a less than accurate estimate). Ive seen somewhere around here that the standard expectation is .5g per watt of light.

Also is a 600 not enough for this size? should i make it smaller? maybe use a premade cabinet/shed type thing?

You want at least 40-50 watts per square foot of grow area. So one 600 watt light is good for about 12 square feet.

you are going to have to vent the box. a 600W will put temps around 102F in that space.(estimation)

to give you an actual example 400w in a 4x4x4 space with no vents hits 96F
a 250CFM fan would do you wonders and put temps around a mangeable and ideal 77F.

I wouldn't bother with the insulation.
Black white plastic is far more convenient as it is scrubbable.

In terms of yield...depends on strain...
    To give you an idea, a 4wx4hx8L box, bagseed, 2 x 400WHPS

    12/12 from clone - 100 plants yeilds 16oz every 7 weeks
    6 weeks of veg - 28plants yields 24oz every 7 weeks

    You gonna keep moms?

Blimey, 96F is that all? My lamps reflector gets so hot you could burn yourself on it easily.. even with an air con pumping out 5-15Celsius air.

I have some white/white plastic.. why the shop gave me that I do not know! Reflective mylar is a good idea for those who aren't legal MMJ growers I'd say.. don't want IR leaking out like nobodies business. Even if the room is cool the radiant light can leak out, etc?

I want to keep mothers myself, just not sure if I can afford the extra light and space for it, poor man here!

I heard of some guy using only one light with moms + cuttings through veg and flowering once (If i recall) - but maybe I am just imagining it because of the poorness!

I used a portion of a 3 room camping tent as my growbox, works pretty good. and best of all no wires or electrical items touching the floor at all. really easy to setup too

lmao, of course its a camping tent, The tent is made of fire resistant material. the light hangs down from the roof and then through a hole I made in the tent. there are no wires or cords touching the floor whatsoever so if spills happen during watering or anything, the bottom is made of a water-tight tarp-like material as well. No part of the tent touches the light. The temps range from 72-82F and the humidity is 43-57% not too bad(when lights are off and when They are on). I have a fan that stirs the air near the canopy and the light.
