Replace Mag 1000w w/Electronic 600w ballast???

I'm having a REALLY hard time deciding on how much light to buy for my recirculating dwc grow. I'm about 3 weeks away from needing to step up to HID lighting for my 9 "Pure Power Plants'. Here are the specs on the grow:

9 5gal DWC buckets
8'x5' flower room
7' hight
2 air cooled hoods
465cfm fan
A/C
De-Humid


I am thinking 2 600w electronic ballast with "EYE" HPS bulbs. I like this idea because it will use very little more electricity then my old mag 1000w, but with even more light and ability to put closer to the plants. Does this seem like enough light for this setup? I'm unsure how much light this strain in DWC can use. 1 or 2 1000w electronic ballasts are an option this is not enough. Thanks for the input!!!

50 watts per sq. ft. is suposed to be ideal .
5' x 8' = 40' x 50w. = 2000 watts.

Are the 9 plants from clone ?
Are they all female ?
How long are you gonna veg them ?
Topping , f.i.m , l.s.t ?

Sorry for in incomplete info. I have ~20 PPP seeds sprouted and I will take the best for a mother then move 9 fems to the flower room. Was planing on vegging 6 weeks. No plans for any sort of training, this is my first hydro grow so I'll be focusing on getting the system dialed. Thanks.

I was WAY to tired when I started this thread. I ordered (2) 1000w Lumatek ballasts. I will report on how well they are built and perform. Hoping they burn the bulbs hotter then those loud mag ballasts.

Lumateks are awesome, and if you can't grow a forest with 2k of lumatek goodness, you're doin' something wrong You should definitely like them MUCH more than magnetic.

2k of lumatek goodness in air-cooled hoods and 5 gal DWC with the possibility of Co2...... We love our forests up here in Nor*Cal. :greenthumb:

Lumateks are great. I have 4 600s for flowering, 2 400's for veg, and one of each for backup. They are clean, quiet, and easy to move around because they're so light. I've had mine for 9 or 10 months with no problems other than having to replace one. They have a 5 year warranty so I was simply given a new one. I'll never go back.
