I goto the store to buy my meds and out of 25 or 30 different kinds of weed in their store, they only have one that smells good like marijuana is supposed to smell and the rest smells like friggin perfume.
Then these moronic youngsters that have no fucking clue what good weed smells like sit there and say things like "This is the best marijuana out there" I take a whiff and almost puke because it smells like shit.
I have been smoking marijuana since September of 1973 and know what weed is supposed to smell like, kind of like skunk piss. Even dirty Mexican shwag that you can buy on the street from idiotic gang bangers smells better than the shit they sell in the stores and it has seeds & stems all in it still making it more appealing than the so called good shit from the stores.
Where did all the good weed go?

What you're smelling is the nutrients and different products used to grow. You should be grateful you get to smoke professionally grown and cured buds though.

I dunno, I was getting hawiian, thai, sensimillia, and some rockin indica back then..... and that doesn't include what I was getting when I was overseas. Some of the domestic stuff was almost as good as what I am growing now. I still haven't found anything that compares to the stuff I got on Yap Island in 1979.

FWIW, back then, my buds were buying oz zips of colombian, or mexican for $25, and their whole stash would be gone in a week or less. I would buy a 1/4 of something decent, and still be gatting hammered at the end of the month.

I guess you have to be old enough to have been there.

Mmmmmm Thai sticks didn't see them very often but a lovely treat when they did turn up. compared to todays weed i wouldn't say it was better than the good bud today as i think tolerance levels are higher as the weed has gradually got stronger. 25 yrs ago i didn't have a pick of good quality weed like i do now it was mostly hash temple ball, double zero, paki black, gold seal and lebonese gold

I think it may be worth mentioning that if you have been smoking for years, 20+, I think it's safe to say your personal tolerances are different than they were "back in the day". I sure wish I had been around for some of the old school landraces, but when I see pictures of them, they do look a little skitchy. Of course I didn't grow up on Acapulco Gold, so I can't give a personal opinion on experience, but by looks alone, I would definitely prefer todays smoke.

I'm not even going to attempt to figure out where that smell of weed went, I'm only 30 and I remember getting bags back in the day that smelled like weed. All the good stuff had that same weed smell, and I haven't had anything like it in years.

That being said, i think the "potency" vs decade argument is a purely subjective one to the individual. With so many combinations of cannabinoids, everyone has different experiences with different herb. Most of what I have read about potency suggests that today's weed is of higher potency, but with it's subjective nature, that doesn't necessarily equal a better experience for the individual.
