dont you hate it when people say "its so quiet in here"

People say things like "its so quiet in here" and "this is awkward" when what they really mean is "I hope no one knows I farted."

When a conversation hits a awkward lull, it's helpful to have an innocuous phrase or question that will make everyone feel more comfortable and eager to restart the conversation. Here are a few good ones:

"So is it true that your father is gay?"

"I've been battling a persistent toenail fungus."

"Have you accepted Jesus Chirist as your personal saviour?"

I'm extremely quiet, and alone. But when I am around other people I can loosen my comfort zones and share thoughts with others.

The way I see it is, you get what you put into a conversation. If someone is bothered by an awkwardness and they don't contribute, they need to find entertainment elsewhere.

The purpose of communication is to understand people and build foundations for companionship. Awkwardness is brought about by miscommunication, and it is our task as communicators to fix that error.

Don't you hate it when the thread you are posting in gets removed whilst you are replying to it. Thankfuly I only wrote a short sentence last time, a couple of lines, it wasn't an opus. Anyway, why are people saying "it's quiet in here then?"

Yeah, I have a new favorite saying. Read it somewhere online.. "Never miss an opportunity to shut the fuck up."
    Couldnt be more perfect.

There's a scene in Pulp Fiction where the Uma Thurman character has a conversation with the John Travolta character about awkward silsences and why people can't just "shut the fuck up." It's a good scene. If you are comfortable with people you can share silence and be OK.
