Hydroponic grow boxes
Hey all,
I'm a first time grower & seriously considering purchasing a hydro grow box, particularly the V1 mini stealth from homegrown-hydroponics.com. I've heard some pretty disappointing stories about some, but I've also read some success stories. Can anyone give any suggestions about these grow boxes? testimonials? i know it would be cheaper to build one myself, but i really dont have the time, nor handy skillz to do so.
Please advise,

I don't know much about them, but they seem like they come with everything you need to get going, especially for people such as yourself who don't have the time, etc. to make your own cab.
When I first started growing I was originally going to get one from Sunlight Sheds, because I too didn't think I had the skill needed to build a proper grow cab, let alone a hydro system. But after reading as much as I could find on these boards for a few months, and due to a limited budget, I ended up making my own cab and it worked great.
Anyways, the moral is, make sure you do lots of research before you spend that kind of money, because it may be easier and less time consuming than you think to build your own! Oh yeah, it's also more fun to build your own!
Just remember, research is key, and there are many, very, knowledgeable people on these boards. In the end, it's your choice, but if you choose to go with a pre-built cab, make sure the company you buy from is reputable.

Looked at that site for you and in particular the product you mentioned. Seems rediculous. It's only 34" high on the outside. So what is the lamp height? At least 6" less than that? Then what is the base height of the net pots? At least 10"? So there is only 18" inbetween them and your gonna need to leave at least 1' so your plants can only grow to a height of 8"? 600 watt light that is not cooled in any way and that cab is closed, you will burn your plants nice and toasty.
Then what kind of bulb are they "giving" you? A MH? a HPS? is it a dual ballast?
Basically its a joke. If you want a very cheap system to just start that you can expand upon, start with a GH Waterfarm single bucket setup. That should cost you about $30. Plus a light kit with dual ballast and two lamps and you're on your way.
If you need more help let us know. I have a friend who owns a hydro shop and he can build you anything you'd like and ship it to you.

I'll second herbie the love bud's 'seems ridiculous'. In addition to being expensive, it seems like they would overheat and leave you little room for serious growth.

once that plastic heats up it's going to start gassing off fumes that will probably kill your plants.
i seriously had the same problem with a 2x4 hydro hut years ago. i hear they fixed the problem but whatever i won't trust my plants in one again. i lost some of my best strains to it.

Hey everyboy, thanks for all of the great advice. You guys literally stopped me dead in my tracks. I sent a big fat money order just last night to purchase one of these boxes, then I went on line late late late last night & saw all of these insightful replies, so I immediately called Fed ex & cancelled the delivery. WWWWHHHHHEEEEEWWW. Instead I'm going to purchase a cab myself, from Home Depot (like they do) & get it hooked up at the local hydroponics store. Like I said, i'm a first timer, so i'll be coming back for more good advice....real soon!
Thanks again,
Growboy

Ok, so i've been hearing some real good things about the Hydro Hut. I think i'm going to go with that, the Hydro Hut Mini 39' x 39' x 78' & try to grow 4 -6 nice size plants. i've heard some super horror stories about the "turn key" systems, but not 1 bad thing about the hydro hut.
