That's a logical conclusion to reach but there are a couple other factors.
The ratio of plant/root mass to available nute solution determines how quickly your res conditions will change over time. So there is a point where you have too much plant for too little water.
When in doubt, add an airstone to prevent stagnation, and keep a regular schedule of changing the reservoir out entirely for a fresh solution.
