    Practice Grow Questions

I know this may seem stupid but please bear with me. I can't get my indoor set up as of yet because of the place I'm living at now. I will be moving in the coming months and will be building a cab for my new place. I have a balcony on the 4th floor with potted plants now. I would like to veg a couple of plants just so I can start to get hands on experience with determining the sex. I know its winter now but I live in Miami so my temps are good. Could I veg a plant now with a 13 hour cycle? Would I be able to see some pre flowers or will I just see hermie nanners? What happens to a plant when it sprouts to a 13 hour cycle? I say 13 because I believe here in Miami during the winter we get 13 and not 12 hours. Could be wrong, just what I've heard. Thanks in advance for any help

Sure, why not, but if you can't grow indoors where you live why can you grow on the balcony?

Anyway, they will most likely start to flower as soon as they can (around 3-4 inches tall), so you would really get to see the the difference between male and female without a whole grow. Heck, you'll probably get a bowl or two you can smoke.

    Peace

Thanks man appreciate your two cents. I went ahead and germinated one bean and put it in a small pot. Its on day 11 now and my leaves seem to be pretty droopy especially at night. I fear I am over watering it, but I've only watered it when the soil feels dry. The leaves have been droopy since they got big, but originally I was watering it a little the morning and a little a night when the soil was dry again. Now since I've thought I'm over watering I've only been watering once a day in the morning, and the soil is dry. And still not a change in droopiness. I am in Miami and the temps have been in the mid 80 to high 80s. I do have a drainage hole on the bottom, about half an inch in size. If I'm not over watering what could it be? Normal? Attached is a picture taken at dusk with the leaves extra droopy.

Last night a storm came by with 30+ mph winds. The wind was so strong it was bending my plant all the way over every couple of seconds. So I just brought it inside for the night. This morning I wake up to put it back out side around 6am, and there was no wind. Then I went back to sleep. Then when I wake up again at 11 to check the plant, the wind is back and blowing the plant over again. Now I know a nice breeze makes the stalk get stronger, but isn't that too much wind for a seedling? I now have it in my closet under a big circular CFL. I know that isn't enough light but its better then a window b/c my windows are shaded. Did I do right?

ok, it's not dead yet, that's a plus. definately stop watering more than once a day. you need to be watering maybe every other day right now, unless you are in an extremely dry, hot environment. you need to check down about 2" in the soil to feel if it's really dry, don't just look at the top layer, that could dry in the matter of an hour sometimes. btw, what kind of soil are you using? are you just giving plain water? ph'd? also, let that bad bitch blow in the wind! just simply find a stake of sorts to tie to it to keep it held upright. how many days old? about 2 weeks you will start a low strength nutrient program. MJ is a weed, but it takes a lot to make something of it, you can't just set the sum bitch out there and watch it grow, it's def. not that easy. do your research and you will learn a lot. start reading soil grow logs, basic growing, grow faq's, etc. there's tons of useful info on this site.

I appreciate the advise, although I have been doing my research here for a couple months now. The soil does get dry a couple inches down. It has been very hot here lately. I am using MG potting soil blend with low nute levels(High N). I am using tap water with a PH of 7.5 with a hardness of 300ppm. I haven't tested the soil PH b/c I've only got pool testers right now and I have been scared to give it that much water. I'm low on funds and barley have enough to smoke so I'm trying not to go out and buy nutes and testers. I do know that MG with time release nutes likes to drop in PH after a couple months, but I don't think I'll have my plant growing for three months. But if I do I'll pick up some testers and some PH up. Now remember I'm not trying to yield anything. All I want is to see some preflowers whether they be male or female. Heck, I'm even game to see some hermie nanners. This grow is for the sake of basic experience for when I grow for real. Oh and with the stake I haven't done that b/c I am scared I'll hit roots, also the wind is so strong I'm scared it will hurt the leaves as well. The wind is literally howling. I live in a four story building facing the ocean, so I get extreme wind, humidity, and temps from the warm ocean. So also keep that in mind, my outdoor situation isn't exactly ideal.

Gotcha! Just do your best to make it to flowering then, keep in mind, you need to water until you start to see runoff out of the bottom of the container. then you shouldn't need to water but every couple of days.
