This question gets asked about 5 times per week on average. This product does fairly well at producing on-site herb gardens that you can keep on your kitchen counter. Just as the websites and infomercials suggest they're supposed to do. A somewhat working knowledge of plants and how they grow is also vital to the success of these gadgets.
If anything, it'd be an overhyped and expensive way to germinate and sprouts some seedlings...but, beyond that, I don't imagine there would be much extra (and needed) space.
