    bongs/pipes from china...lead paint concern?

I've heard recently about toys from china having lead paint, and a lot of the pipes/bongs are made in china that I see. Even some of the ones in expensive headshops alongside locally blown ones can be from china or taiwan, they usually just have a little gold "made in china" sticker somewhere on the bottem.

Is there any need for concern that there might be lead paint used on any of these bongs/pipes made in china? or am i just falling victim to media induced paranoia?

how often do you see a bong with paint on it, instead of just having colored glass, that is the issue, lead paint, be wary of paint, not glass.

hmm thats a good point, I really do not know much about the art of making these smoking devices (or any glassblowing for that matter)

I have a few pieces that I know are made in china, heres the only pic i could find of just one of them.

what would they use to make those designs on the pipe?
is lead pain only like non translucent, dries into a shell sort of paint?

actually, the new high times has a small segment on cheap pipes in it. didnt look hasrd, but i believe the stained glass they use can contain lead. and chances are, too much smoking through that may cause problems

i dont see how smoking through glass, even if it did contain lead, could hurt you, your not vaporizing any part of the glass, and the lead particles are stuck firmly in the glass, so if you were to inhale past glass with lead in it, you would have to be inhaling glass particles as well, and id be more concerned about the glass than the lead.

Why not get a kit and test for lead! Here's Consumers Reports article on the kits- may as well get one that works!

yeah this is a good point, google brings up a lot of warnings about stained glass and lead, but its all in regards to grinding, or working with it in ways where you may inhale particles or fumes.
