You should pick your cloning medium based on compatibility with the flowering medium, but that's it. For example, you wouldn't clone into peat pucks if you are flowering in aeroponics. And I don't like putting rockwool-prop'ed clones into soil for risk of rot around the base of the stem. I've found that the composted bark plugs are a decent compromise and can go into soil or most types of hydro just fine.
For SOG, I would use cuts taken all at once from genetically identical mothers, or from a single large mom. Take more than you need so that you can cull out any stragglers that rooted more slowly or failed to 'take off' when planted. Since you can't actually SEE the hormone concentrations in the shoots you cut, you don't really know in advance how evenly they will all grow, so give yourself some wiggle room.
