For the Dems it will be either Clinton or Obama. For the GOP, either McCain or Romney.

  • Obama vs. McCain --- This is the matchup I'd like to see. I would probably vote for Obama, but I could be happy with McCain winning as well. This would be a close national election, but it would probably be the most decently campaigned election in a long time, with less negativity and more substance. Since both have staked out opposite postions on the war, a lot would hinge on how well the war was going by that point.
  • Obama vs. Romney --- I'd vote for Obama. Can't stand Romney. I think Obama would win a national election.
  • Clinton vs. McCain --- This is a harder call. I'm a registered Democrat, but I would probably vote for McCain. McCain probaly has a slight edge in a national election, but that is a VERY slim advantage at this point. Again, a lot would depend on the war 10 months from now. If the economy were to slip more, then Clinton could pick up a bit of an advantage.
  • Clinton vs. Romney --- I'd vote for Clinton. Can't stand Romney. I think Clinton would win a national election.

I think this will be a very interesting election. There are a lot of candidates in it right now that I do not like, but I don't think they have much of a chance. I think I have a decent chance of being OK with the eventual winner. Another interesting factor will be whether any of the candidates have "coat tails" and will they pull any of their own party into congress on a strong turnout.
