The colours are the way to identify each wire as either live nuetral or earth and are an accepted norm throughout Europe, that is why they are colour coded to enable any electrician to easily wire any appliance.
psychocat Reviewed by psychocat on . I need help wiring my 3 prong plug Hello. I'm in France, and I bought a fluorescent lamp by OSRAM that came with wordless instructions for connecting the wires to the lamp (I had to buy the wires at a different store) so I bought the cable with blue, yellow/green and brown wires inside, and I bought a 3 prong plug, (well, here in france it's 2 prongs and one hole). I can't figure out what goes where and what's not supposed to be touching what in the plug. If I could find a pdf with pictures, I think I could figure it out. Rating: 5
