You can start the clones in soil. Do you have a humidity dome?

Question for Stinky and all you Pro's

I like the composted bark ones but there are plenty of growers who like those expanding 'peat pucks' sold at every hardware store at this time of year for starting seedlings.
If you use those, soak them to expand and don't forget to SQUEEZE out excess water before inserting your cuttings. Too wet= oxygen to the roots is blocked=cloning fails.
If you can find a higher humidity dome like at least 6", that's better. Air flow is important.
There is also a detailed cloning instruction linked in my signature. No pics, but some useful hints.

Question for Stinky and all you Pro's

A while back I found a great deal on those expanding Jiffy pellets at a hardware store, or Lowe's. I think I picked up a thousand of them for, like, $25. I'm not a big fan of using them for seedlings, but it's the only way I know how to clone. I've never used rockwool before.

Remember to squeeze out the excess water from them after the initial watering, like Stinky recommended, and keep a close eye on them so they don't dry out. This won't be as much of a problem as long as they're kept in a humid environment. (If left outside of a dome, they seem to dry out ridiculously quick.) When you're ready to transplant, I've also noticed that rooted clones seem to get a slightly quicker start in soil if you take the net covering off of the plugs right before planting into soil.

I use beer cups filled with moistened Promix. For the dome I use two clear plastic Rubbermaid totes, one turned upside down and set on top of the other. Using the beer cups from the start saves you a transplant like if you use the peat pellets.
