Important note about the Original Music board (and all other boards here)

Only Copyright Owner/Licensee* may post their own music here. For example if you wrote and performed an original piece of music, you may post that here - great way to share and get exposure.

    * Licensee refers to an entity that is permitted to distribute the music by the copyright holder - this does not refer to the purchaser of the music.

In short, posting other artists' music without permission is not permitted.

However, posters may still post links, pictures, etc of other artists and of course discuss their music.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

No prob...posting of music on-line is still a very new thing for many folks.

The RIAA and others contract out with various intellectual property compliance services to scan websites, IRC channels, etc throughout the internet looking for violators - some copyright holders/licensees will not think twice getting subpoenas for posters' IPs and related info and thus our strictly enforced policy against posting others' music without prior permission.

Ghostman - It doesn't have to make sense. =) The fact of the matter is you would be hosting an illegal on Ron's server. He would be the one to get in trouble, not you. A similar question is: Why can't I post child porn here? It's not like we're charging you for it. Well, one simple reason why: Where Ron is hosting this server, it is illegal to do so and he's the one who deals with all the legal situations for this site.

im sure any artist out there wont mind you posting the Link to thier site here for others to go to

for example my favorite band ever
    http://www.lynyrdskynyrd.com/

but im quiet sure a few would be very nasty over what they would see as theft of thier work.

More free copies equals less sales - at least that's what they claim.

Distributing copyrighted works without prior written permission of the copyright holder/licensee, with some exceptions, is generally against the law in most countries.

Not exactly ... the poster is who would get in trouble. The DMCA safe harbor provisions shields "service providers" from liability in such instances, assuming the procedures, as outlined in the DMCA, are followed - note the "Click here for DMCA Designated Agent information" at the bottom of message posts here.

Here again, the poster would be solely responsible for the reasons I explained above - they are the one who would have a legal problem to deal with, not us.

In a nutshell, it's best folks only post music, etc that they themselves have created and/or are licensed to distribute, such as promoter/record company; merely buying a CD, etc at a store does NOT give one distribution rights.
