Lighter Explosions
Has anyone else here ever had a lighter explode in their face? Cause mine did yesterday... I have a torch lighter (mostly for novelty, burns too hot for smoking), and was adjusting the flame when the end cap popped off, exploding into a giant fireball right in my face... I just stood there for several seconds frozen before realizing my face was on fire (figuratively)!
Rushed over the the university health center where they immediately sent me to the ER. Got triaged level 2 and was seen quickly (about 10 minutes... other people in there who were there before me were still waiting when i got out).
My lips have 1st degree burns, and the end of my nose has 2nd degree burns, all of this the day before the first day of the semester... just my luck. Still have my hair tho, eyebrows and eyelashes included, although my chest hair is all but gone even though i was wearing a shirt haha
So.... has anyone else ever had a lighter literally explode on them?otottoto Reviewed by otottoto on . Lighter Explosions Has anyone else here ever had a lighter explode in their face? Unlucky, never had it happen to me but seen my baked friends do similar stuff...One was trying to see how high he could throw his lighter and catch it, he missed it and it blew up on the ground, so funny lol, I could see it comin from a mile away but he never thought of the possibility, no injury tho...Another friend burnt his legs up pretty bad heating something with a lighter, this could go in the famous last words thread, he said "is it meant to bubble like that?" followed by a green fireball which burnt his legs, he was fine at first but it got worse later on, did it in a fairly public place too, people must have wondered what the fuck was goin on

IF the lighter wasn't tampered with and you had a witness.......can you spell L-A-W-S-U-I-T? I'll bet it's even hard to ya to use a lighter these days with the mental distress you had....
Have a good one!

I'm sorry to hear that man. That sounds fucking horrible. I've never had it happen to me, thank christ.
Really, when you think about it, lighters are very dangerous. Gas - fire - right next to your face.
I hope it dont hurt too bad and hope it heals quickly.

I am always worried about lighters blowing up,My freind had a bic blow up in his hand....Well he was smoking something else and had the flame going for a long time,I guess it stayed too hot for too long and just blew up.Not as bad as what you got though.
I blew out my lighter once when I accidentally put a lit cigarette on my lighter and forgot about while playing street fighter 2.A huge geyser of gas went shooting in the air.

get some photos of your face and get your file from the ER.
fuck that, lighters shouldn't explode.
the only time they do for me is when i smash em or put em in a fire

yeah, i bet you could definately get some money off of this as damage compensation... your probably not going to get a million dollars, bu if you show them photos of your injury and a phptocopy of the hospital results, you might be able to get a pretty decent check off em. companies dont like to have bad rep like that going around.

Oh trust me, I'd be on top of any available legal action... unfortunately since the lighter is not brand name (actually no company info at all) and has no warrentee information, theres really no way for me to file a lawsuit, as I a) dont have any proof of who made the lighter, and b) have no documentation for the lighter. And you're dead on Psycho, this definitely doesn't help my stress level these days... seems like I just can't catch a break...
I've got an appointment with the hospital's burn specialist tomorrow morning, so I'll be sure to update y'all soon as I can

Not to make light of your situation (or puns for that matter
) too bad you don't have a video of that! You would be the star of Youtube right about now.
