I gotta sprout and some questions

I planted a bagseed and got a sprout. This is a little dixie cup with some potting soil. I've been putting this literally 2 inches from the light. My light is gooseneck desk lamp with a single 26W 6500K CFL.

In the mean time I'm building up my rubbermaid box. I have 6 of these lights, with conduit and junction boxes that house my splices (wire nuts). I want to protect my house and give it a clean, neat appearance. Pix of that to come later.

Anyway, here are my sprout pix. Do you think this is doing ok? It took about 5 days to show an upside down U shaped stem. On day 1 (Tues) it popped out of the soil. Day 3 is today (Thurs) and you can see the rest. This is off a cell phone camera, so no real quality. It's about an inch tall and an inch wide now. It's growing noticeably wider but not much taller. I had an outdoor plant several years ago and it grew taller faster.

When should I replant this out of the dixie cup - how many nodes? I have a 6 inch plastic pot waiting.

I gotta sprout and some questions

No I wasn't using pH balanced water but I was letting a cup of tap water sit in my grow box to air out for a couple days before I used it. So anyway, the other plant is stunted, and the leaves are starting to get brown splotches. At 16 days it hasn't gotten its second node yet, so I feel it's pretty much a lost cause and I give up on that one.

Like I said, I have 2 new sprouts. I'm going to seal this thread off and start this one:

My last grow i transplnted the sprouts from party cups to 2 gal. pot only 1 week after the ybroke ground, so i dont think that is it.

No height change, only a little in width every day. No sign of a 2nd node anywhere to be found. Embryonic leaves still haven't fallen off. Still looking super green, though, so I'm going to continue trying it. I never used nutes on this BTW.

The dixie cup was only about 2 inches across, 3 inches tall. Really small paper cup. When I transplanted, I cut the cup down the side and pulled the dirt out in one piece, then planted into a bigger pot. You could see the roots everywhere, and some stuck to the side of the cup. One thing I did, though, was water that little sprout 1 or 2 times a day. Oops.

Good news is, 2 sprouts have germinated in my little peat ball & plastic greenhouse thing and are going to be planted into a 6" pot immediately. I have 0.05-0.04-0.03 StaGreen soil. How soon can I put these little ones a couple inches from the light? The stunted one was 2 inches from the light since it broke ground.
Hmmmmm, that cup u r describing sounds VERY small, BUT i have seen clones in pieces of rockwool, so i dont think its the size of ur cup, sprouts being that small and all.

Biostone u r using Ph balanced water when u water that thing right??

If u r using Ph'd water the only thing i can think of is u watered it too much early on and now its suffering.... BUT, i am no expert, just an observationist who has been dabbling for a little while.

I leave my sprouts about 2-3 feet under a 65w CFL for a couple days, then when i feel its time i put the MH on em at the same height and lower slowly to see how they adjust.

I gotta sprout and some questions

Well I'm a gardener to an extent when it comes to outdoor things in Zone 9 hardiness. This indoor thing is new to me. I will say Zone 9, close to Mexico -- $20 a half all day!!! Seeds are easy to come by.

Anywayz, the plant is still slowly growing with the 2 leaves. Has a bit of an odor when the lights are on. The 2 leaves are now separating so hopefully another node will come out of it.

No, this isn't in a dixie cup anymore. It's in a pot about 6 inches wide and 9 inches tall. I want to eventually LST this before transplanting into a big pot. I've done some research here for sure. :rastasmoke:

I don't want to chance 1 plant being male so I got some peat pots and germination starter kits and will see if I can get some more. These seeds are truly duds, but I have plenty to try. I'll be happy with 1 female and 15g dry yield.

I gotta sprout and some questions

I'll try again for some help. Using rubbermaid box since day 7 as mentioned. This is day #10 (9 days after it broke ground). 24/7 lighting. Box runs 76-80 degrees all day with ventilation. I transplanted around day 6 into a 6" pot. Rootball was at least 3x bigger than the plant. It's now about 2 inches wide and 2 inches tall. The leaves are very stiff like a wax bush and have lots of veins underneath.

Does this look ok? I think it's stunted and one of the leaves is mutant. No sign of a 2nd node to pop out anytime soon. Embryonic leaves are starting to die. Smells strong when you put your nose to it. Any thoughts?

FYI the white stuff in there is perlite dust.

    Thanks! :hippy:

The crap on the soil surface is perlite, just a little bit, used as a reflector for the underside of the leaves.

The soil is Miracle Gro Potting mix, 0.21, 0.07, 0.14. Otherwise I'm not feeding it anything but water every 3 days. I leave it sitting out to evaporate the chlorine. Is the soil the problem?

dont think so. ive used a MG soil before on seeds. (isnt the greatest, but it works)

i personnaly have found that small container seedlings will suck up a lot of water if light is readily available. make sure its neither overly dry or wet before waterings

I gotta sprout and some questions

I think it dried out a little too much. It perked up after I watered it. I will do the watering every 2 days instead of 3. The soil drains well into a saucer. The plant is still green and getting very slightly bigger. No sign of a 2nd node, though. I will just keep ig going and see what happens. I the mean time I have several dozen bag seeds left, and will germinate some more.

great start boistone! that yellow on the first set is normal, the rest looks good. you are using your brain, is it still in the dixie cup? watering should be only when needed, not on a set schedule like every few days unless the soil is dry, and watering also depends on way of growing too, so play it by feel until that seedling starts to really shoot up.
cudo`s on using bagseed for your first grow.
