Actually there is stuff like that out there...sort of. I havn't really ever read anything about the psychology of music or art, but I have read about the philosophy of it, which is in this case the same thing: Why do we do it?
Im about to meet up with a friend to blaze so I can't get into it now, but I will post some stuff for you to look at and ponder a little later.

Very interesting topic, I've thought a great deal about this. To know anything, the easiest approach is to know its history and understand/recognize patterns etc. So taking that route to the very extreme; the existence of music (?)
One Idea that came to me was, when there were two things time was born, you know.. you could measure one against the other etc. And the creation of time could also mean the creation of music.. What else could it have been?
Now was music created as an expression or has it been adopted by humanity to be so, that is something I would really like to know..I do believe that it is a very complicated and deep form of expression.
Sorry about the length..

For my senior essay, my paper was on how music affected each cerebral hemisphere. If I only wasn't in a coma for ten days, a year and a half later. I can't find my notes.

well musics definition is the organization of sound in time. However music is timeless. It gives you something to ride. Its so appealing because its like we board a boat of sound and drift and drift until the boat stops. Then we feel the slight wake under us, being the experience we just had. And when a new song begins, the boat might change direction, or even flip and show the depths of the sea. But your still with it. Music is universal. Since intelligent life, elsewhere, pretty much exists..I always wondered what their music would sound like.
Music Theory goes so unbelievably deep. Its very hard to keep up with it all and learn everything. I think, as a musician...one should just learn by ear....from the second he or she picks it up and then the years on. Thats how the best guitarist on earth did it. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Music is a universal language. You can read feeling and understanding through it. And no matter what the source is, that music exists everywhere and vibrates throughout everything. Music

I'm studying sound engineering right now at a community college, but I plan to eventually transfer to a larger school and move into this area and study the psychology of music and sound, and psychoaccoustics (the perception of sound).
