Females have 'balls' too only they are actually CALYXES, which is where the seed will form if the plant is pollinated, and where the trichomes are most concentrated. Female calyxes grow singly or in pairs at each node, then pile up big time when the female is in full flower.
What you think are pistils at the top may just have been the fine new growth of small bud-leaves. True pistils are pure white to cream, pink, lavender, and even scarlet (rarely), pop out in pairs like a 'v', and have a slightly furry appearance under a magnifying glass.
