I could use some assistance with my new room......

    OK...

I'm new to this forum, but I'm very ambitious and I have some space..... I have a feeble effort going on right now, but I want to do this space up right.....

    I've got a 6' x 8' room for starters, and a kinda awkward 5' x 2'
space stashed in behind.......I was kinda thinking of converting it to veg. room, and then turn the other one into a flowering room.

I have a 400w HPS and a 300w MH at the moment... Not ideal and I want to upgrade.....

It's kinda half finished with PVC sealing off all the interior walls and floor. There is a passive air intake. It sucks air in through the suspended ceiling in the basement. Air is vented outside through a 3" duct and bathroom fan. I'm convinced that it's totally insufficient, but I haven't had any real issues YET... Thats the operative word.

All the walls are covered with corrugated PVC. I dig it. Unlike mylar it's non-conductive, and it's cheap like borscht.

I want to upgrade the hell out of my little wee grow-shack, but I am venturing into foreign territory. I'm unsure as to how I can turn this place into a hobby grower's wet dream....

I know i need new ventilation and lights. I don't really know what would be the best bet for both..... I have some sweet activated carbon air filters I wanna put to use, but I don't know what kinda fan would be best suited for my space......

Also I wanna get the max possible lighting for the size of my
room. I am going to throw some fluorescents into the 5' x 2' space. It should be ok for veging some little guys.

So that's it.... Let me know about any suggestions for pimping my shack. I want this place to be as efficient as possible, with as many constants controlled as possible. It's already discrete, just not as good as i could be...

Here's some pix for an idea of what i'm doing now..... Please help me take advantage of the space.......

    Cheers All........

Yes, smaller space for veg, larger for flower= efficient

It's a matter of adding a single light, and tossing the MH on a light mover run the long way in your closet. That will be GREAT for vegging. Then you can throw a couple more HPS in the large space. A couple 600HPS on air-cooling would be a good place to start.

Yup, it will be. You want to run your lights on air-cooled hoods and exhaust them all via a 6" duct with a carbon filter over the end, using a good quality blower.

Mmmm borscht. It may be cheap but it's delicious.

Mattress (preferably stained) and pile of girlie mags in the corner?

Big fat 6" inline blower...mmmm ... as for lights, in that space, a total of 4 HPS 600s or 3 600s and your 400, would give excellent coverage.

You wanna pimp your shack? Light movers are yummy. Circular ones work for a nearly-square room, or a pair of rails on opposite schedules. A pair of rails with a pair of 1000HPS would be sweet.
    Don't skimp on exhaust.
Shell out for a climate controller that will run your exhaust according to ambient temp and humidity, keeping your conditions controlled. Plan to keep a couple moms and use your veg room to care for them and for the cuttings they provide so you can run a very efficient watts : harvest weight ratio sea of green style grow.
And don't forget to have fun.

Thanks for the input guys......Im goin down tomorrow to pick an inline blower....6" you figure would be enough? As for lights, are there any places that would ship discretely? I live in a remote place, so hitting up a hydro shop is pretty much impossible.

Any on line hydro shops that I have bought stuff from have always shipped their packages discretely. Like with just an address and no company name, in a plain box. If your worried, you might ask them. I'm sure they would go out of their way to accommodate a new customer. And if they don't, you probably don't want to buy stuff from them anyway.

And did stinky mention "don't skimp on the ventilation"? This is a big one. I like to tell people to plan on spending at least as much on venting as they do on lighting. Nothing like tearing apart your grow room, twice, to put in the proper ventilation.

Hey righteous I recently bought a 600w digital kit (hood, MH and HPS bulb, and digi ballast from HTG Supply on ebay for $350ish. Good shipping and decent prices plus lots of other goodies on there. They shipped in a plain UPS box and had nothing on it giving away what was inside. My .02 cents for ya

K..... I hear y'all.... Ventilation... Got it figured.....
To keep things discrete I just bought a couple bilge fans...
3 of em..... 4"... I've got limited space to vent outside due to the concrete walls in the basement, But I have room to pop 2 more 4' holes.... Everything vents under my deck, and I made some activated carbon filters at work...

Each of these fans puts out 192cfm without a filter, so with im guessing 150cfm each with filters. Sound right?

Also I just ordered 2x 600w HPS for dirt cheap....

So thats two 600w HPS, one 400w HPS, three 150cfm Bilge fans going out, Sufficient air in. That's my flowering room. When these girls are done I'll upgrade hard.

Can it shock the shit out of them if I add more lights, or will it all be good? I'm growing my first batch of purple power, and I'd hate to waste em.......
