1) Because it creates a dangerously hot surface of the bottom of the pipe. If you were to set it down on anything plastic, it could very easily melt it. Or burn you....
2) It's all thin glass. You set it down too roughly, smash....
3) "the fact you can make one from a bulb I guess."
