    watering a plant while gone

i have one female plant, early weeks of flowering, around 3ft tall with the pot. i have been giving her around 2 liters every other day with some petersons mixed in.

i have to go away for 5-7 days. i wanted to know if i could use a tray to water her for that long. ive watered from the bottom before with smaller plants, but only to experiment. would it be possible to put 5+ liters in a tub underneath and have it safely water the plant. would i need to maybe add a layer of rocks/pebbles to the bottom to better separate the excess water from the roots?

Maybe you can setup a "wick" system.

Don't know about making a bottom out of water.

I guess somebody watering the plant for you is out fo the question?

yeah thats one way. Or you can put her in a tub of water while your gone. I did this for 14 days came back and all of my 3 plants were healthy and nice. All the water was gone too but thats besides the point.

The best possible option would be to set up a hydroponic system where it drops set up on a timer.

but please don't let your roots sit in water!!!!

I guess I should have explained the you don't want your roots under water for that long. Hell, it would be better NOT to water them for a few days then drown them. My :twocents:

Just telling you my personal experience.

College student strapped for cash with no time. i bought 2 tubs put about 2 gallons of water in them and let my plants sit in them for 2 week. Horrible, lots can go wrong such as root rot, over watering. But if you don't have any other options 2 weeks without water is death. id rather over water and have them live so i can nurse them when i get back then come back to brown plants. having my plants alive is much better then not watering and that my friend is why putting them into a bucket with water is much better then kicking my own ass.

having said that, if you do have the time and money invest in a drip system. you can even make your own using a pump bought from any fish store or home gardening place for around 10$ plus 7-10$ tubing. the timer should run about 15$ putting you in about 35+ or so.
