seeds from 2006
hello, first post with a few 'noob' Q's.
ok, got some buds (some very good ones
imp
in 2006 and in the baggy they were in there was also 4 seeds which i kept at the time; they are still in my old tin and appear undamaged. i would like to know if the likelyhood of germination has been affected and/or if it is worth sowing them.
second question, i only plan to grow a few plants for my own personal use (3-4 plants max), would this garden flood light be adequate - Amazon.co.uk: 500w PIR Floodlight (Black): Kitchen & Home?
finally i am concerned about the smell and need to minimalize it as mush as possible, if someone can give me an idea of what 3/4 plants will smell like i would appreciate that.
many thanks. :thumbsup:sharkfinz Reviewed by sharkfinz on . seeds from 2006 hello, first post with a few 'noob' Q's. ok, got some buds (some very good ones :pimp:) in 2006 and in the baggy they were in there was also 4 seeds which i kept at the time; they are still in my old tin and appear undamaged. i would like to know if the likelyhood of germination has been affected and/or if it is worth sowing them. second question, i only plan to grow a few plants for my own personal use (3-4 plants max), would this garden flood light be adequate - Rating: 5First grow attempt - 12\'x12\' Micro grow - *UNSUCCESSFUL*:wtf:

ah ok, it does say it's 500 watt so if i bypass the floodlights timing device, surely it would be enough to grow with, no?

no its still the wrong spectrum of light......you either need CFL's , metal haliad, or high pressure sodium bulbs.

If you got some seeds from some high quality buds in the past, I would recommend holding on to them, and eventually growing them. But if this is your first grow, you might want to think about using less valuable seeds to begin with...if you have/can get some.
You don't want to use a halogen for a grow light. It will get way too hot for the amount of light that it produces, and I doubt the spectrum would be very good for the growth stages. If you're able to afford it, look into buying an HID (either Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium, or both) and do some research on what size you should go with based on how much room you have. CFLs are also popular for small grows. Check out the Indoor Lighting forums, and the other grow forums on this site to get well-acquainted with many/most of your questions, and questions you've yet to even think of.
Smell is going to depend on any number of things, i.e. - strain, life cycle of the plants, ventilation/odor reduction, and more. Again, searching the forums is the best way to familiarize yourself with the necessities and the things that are just nice to have.

Plants can only use certain parts of the light we see. Regular lights have much of their light in the wrong spectrum. The plant can "see" and use only a tiny part of that light. You will get thin, sickly, stretched-out seedlings and a poor harvest, if any!
Get some CFLs (the curly bulbs) and use those- they have the right type of light for your plants. (You won't see much difference in the light, but your plant sure will!) Keep the CFLs about 3 - 4 inches from your plants. Tube fluoros will also work, and should be 1 - 2 inches from your plants. Blue-ish/ cool white lights work best for vegging. Warm whites for budding.
As for the seeds, I've had MUCH older seeds sprout. If they have been stored in a reasonably cool, dry spot, they should reward you with at least a 50% germination rate.
And as for the smell, it depends on the strain! How was the pot you got the seeds from? Stanky danky? Just a light scent? That will give you an idea. Also, will you have fans on your grow to strengthen the stems? That causes the plants to bump leaves and give off more odors, plus it moves the air (and odor molecules) around.
Child, get thee to the "Grow section" and start reading! You have obviously not done your required reading! Start in the "Basic Growing", then the "Indoor Growing" section. Grow organically in soil- it's way easier than hydro and such! Read ALL of the stickies first! - Granny:hippy:
