Rhizome/Opie/Anyone who uses Truncheon PH Meter Help!!!

I can't get mine to calibrate lately! I've tried cleaning the probe, and even changing the contact ring (only had it about a month....) but I keep getting that flashing green 5. It calibrates to the 4.0 solution I have (made by BlueLab) but not the 7 (made by Hanna) although it DID calibrate to the hanna solution previousyly. Any tips? I use new solution each time and check it once a week, keep the cap with 4.0 solution damp on the sponge and rinse the probe each time I use it. HELP!! Does the 7 solution have to made by bluelab as well? Seems odd it work for a while but not now.....:wtf:

I don't know what's going on and please stop saying stuff like that. I absolutely love both mine, and you're scaring me now. These are supposed to be some of the best in the industry. I use a generic 4 and 7 without a problem. I'm pretty sure any calibration solutions would be fine, as long as they are somewhat new. I always try to grab mine from the back of the shelf, since that's probably where the newest stuff is.

I sure hope it's nothing serious and you get it fixed soon. I think you and I bought ours basically about the same day. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I would try reading the troubleshooting part of the instructions again, then visiting their web site Bluelab : Manufacturers of the World's favorite pH, EC, CF and ppm handheld meters and controllers, or contacting the guy who you bought it from or bluelab tech support or customer service.

Bummer man, real sorry. The only thing different I can think of is I don't store my probe in acid. That never really made sense to me, even though several manufactures recommend doing so. Doesn't acid dissolve stuff? I always rinse mine thoroughly and store it with tap water in the sponge. My tap water is 7.6.

The more I think about it the more it seems like storing it in 4 could be causing the problem. I suppose it could be a coincidence, but it will calibrate at 4 but not 7. Hmmmm, interesting. Send a quick email. Who knows, you might get a response tomorrow.

Funny, (well not really) I bought electrode storage solution and electrode cleaning solution with the meters, but haven't used either yet. You might try cleaning with a good part A and B solution. You dip it in A, then B, then A again, for 5 minutes each, then rinse well. Or, you might consider storing it in neutral calibration fluid (7) for a while, and see if that'll bring it around. Then 4 probably would stop working.

Rhizome/Opie/Anyone who uses Truncheon PH Meter Help!!!

well i took it to my hydro guy.....and I don't know what he did but he got it calibrated and told me to try it again......don't ask me what I'm doing wrong because it's supposed to be foolproof.....good thing I'm not a fool, huh? LOL!!

Anyway, I wouldn't worry if I were you....he mentioned to that usually they are very easy to calibrate and he had hadn't seen someone who couldn't get it to work so I believe you are safe Opie (ps....he said generics solutions should be fine to use btw as long as they are fresh) but I have terrible fears of the same thing happening again....

How come there's never a fool around when you need one? ...they seem to abound otherwise.

Thanks WH that makes me feel better. I was initially going to suggest as the first fix to try, going back and carefully reading the instructions for calibrating. The calibration procedure is extremely easy, but there are some things you have to do just right and in the proper sequence, or it won't work and you have to try again from the beginning. I did not mention this thought, because I feel that your cracker does have cheese on it and your elevator does go clear to the top, and I did not want to insult you. Anyways, good news, and I hope it doesn't happen again, or if it does it is merely operator error.
