Is there a mh bulb I can use with my hps light I've heard of conversion bulbs but I don't know if I need a whole other lighting system to use both mh and hps.

If you have an HPS light with an HPS ballast, you can buy a MH conversion bulb that will work with your current system. It will only work in your system, so don't try plugging it into a MH socket later on. It's designed specifically to give off MH light after being plugged into an HPS ballast/socket.

Have you checked your ballast to see if it's rated for both. My powerplant ballast runs both MH & HPS without the need to switch or use a conversion bulb & has HPS/MH on a plate on the ballast. There's been a few questions I have seen recently on this & I have previously read on a lights site that any HPS ballast can actually run MH bulbs. There reasoning given was based on the similarity of componets in each ballast with the main difference being the starter required in the HPS ballast. I will see if I can dig up the bookmark however it was almost a year ago when I first read up on HID lights.

Heres a couple of links to give an idea of the contrary opinions on it but electrically the answer is yes there may be a Metal Halide bulb that will run on your HPS ballast. You can but try & some people feel safer if the bulb has been packaged as a conversion bulb.
