You should only water them in the soil because it will cause the leaves to burn in spots if you get water droplets on them. i spray my leaves like mad.. in some cases i'll mist the entire plant so the leaves drip.. with a fan on there it drys in no time.. it's water sitting on the leaves with no or little ventelation that creates the problem

Some of the smaller leaves have strange small holes in them, I know nothing is eating them though. The holes are on the sections of the leaves that will turn into the saw shape later on, here is a pic I made of the problem, its kind of shitty tho.
