Stop censoring my news?

Instead of ranting and raving the whole way through this post, Iâ??m just going to say Iâ??m thoroughly disgusted, and report what I noticed.

Ok, so, Iâ??m thoroughly fucking disgusted.

Two nights ago Iâ??m watching the late news before I go to bed. Near the end of the program they begin a piece about a new study on Marijuana. They were studying the effects of Marijuana on cancer. They reported that the study found (exact words!) â??the active ingredient in Marijuana slows, and sometimes stops the spread of certain cancers.â?� Needless to say I went to bed with a smile on my face. The next morning I told G/F all about it, and went online to try and find the story. Our local news (nbc4/dc area) is good about putting all their stories onlineâ?¦ even the smallest story. But I couldnâ??t find it anywhere on their website. Every other news story that they covered that night made it to the website. Now itâ??s been a couple days and they havenâ??t reported on it again, and the story still never made it to their website. On top of that I havenâ??t seen any other news outlet report the story. It should have been big news. I get the sense the story has been pulled. Before you say I imagined or dreamt the broadcast, I just found the actual study here:

The truth is cancer is big business. The last thing they (gov, fda, pharmaceutical companies) want is a cure for cancer.

Check this video out, about a possible cure for cancer. This should have been one of the biggest news stories EVER, yet of the several people Iâ??ve asked, no one has ever even heard of it.

Chances are they didn't censor their news on that story, which was covered very widely by all the wire services and which nearly all news stations I've listened to--local radio, national radio news, satellite radio news, local and national TV--picked up because I heard it eight times within two days and read it in four metro and/or national papers, too.

That was a newsbrief, basically. A filler piece that came from a wire service. So it wasn't actually their news to post on their Web site. You might have been likely to find it in a subsection, if they have one, called "From wire reports," but TV news stations often don't post those types of newsbriefs at all. If they have a sister newspaper or larger network affiliate(most are owned now by media companies and are part of a larger news group), it'll be more likely to posted at the bigger news sites and the ones associated with print news. Often if they don't have a newsbriefs section where they can print news from other sources than their own news teams, they won't post those pulled-from-wire-service stories.

I have to only partially agree with what you said about the FDA and pharma industries not wanting a cure for cancer. They want a cure for cancer because everyone wants that and everyone is likely to be touched by cancer in some way. But I think they only want it within the very strict bounds of our current pharma industry, which dictates much of what the FDA does, and which makes more money from anti-cancer drugs than nearly anything else. They definitely don't want bottom line competition from cannabis, which is why cannabis research has been impeded.

They also boast that â??You can find this and every news item at our website.â?� I was about to respond to you last night, but instead decided to do a little experiment first. I watched last nights program and wrote down a short summery of every news story. This morning I used their search feature, typed keywords in from each item and found every story reported on last night. I guess none of the news last night came from a â??wire service.â?�

But if what you say is true, you bring up an interesting point. You saw/heard about this study 8 times, and read about it 4 times. If thatâ??s the case then many on this site must have heard/read about it. If local news stations from coast to coast have saturated the public with this interesting MJ study, why is this the first and only thread even mentioning the study? Youâ??d think this would be big news on a forum thatâ??s been recently revamped into more a med forum. Perhaps I joined the wrong message board. Does anyone know where I can find Cannabis Message Boards, dealing with Medical Marijuana, Cannabis Club, Dispensary, and News?

"Well produced news segment showing guys in lab coats and pot in petri dishes" probably seemed elaborate, but that was likely either stock lab footage over the wire-originated newsbrief voice-over or was an entirely wire-originated piece, both video and voice, and that some copyright restriction from the service who put it together prevented affiliate stations from posting it as their own . It's ostensible that if you live in a very conservative news market--woah, Virginia, I'm guessing you might if you're not in metropolitan Virginia--a news or Web editor could have trimmed it because of some subjective attitude on illicit drugs.

OK, CannaB, here were the two that appeared here in this sub-forum from the weeklong period when I heard the story covered most widely. The reason you can't see the mentions we had in Medicinal Cannabis and Health is that they seem to have already been archived. We only have threads from the last three weeks or so still visible there, and I'm not sure why that is. . . .

I'm sorry to say that you are indeed mistaken, and now I see the problem. We are talking about 2 similar but different studies. The study Iâ??m referring to wasnâ??t published until Dec. 25. Please check the link in my first post. Also, in the first post I mentioned that the news outlet was nbc4 DC metro area. Please, when you get a moment, could you clean up this thread so we can get back on topic? Thank you.

Birdgirl, for some reason the display option default is set to show the last month in this forum. At the bottom of the forum index you can change this to "from the beginning" and it will show all the threads. The inception date of this forum is August 15th or 16th 2007. There are a couple of fourms that are set like this. I sometimes have a little moment when I think did I imagine that thread because I was stoned....oh wait must change display options...ahhh...not that crazy kind of moment.
