    Obtaining a Medical Cannabis Card

I have had Osgood-Schlatter Disease since I was 13 years old. For those of you who do not know what Osgood-Schlatter Disease is, it is an overuse condition or injury of the knee that causes pain and swelling below the knee area over the shin bone. It is mainly caused through growing pains, however, at 18 years old I don't think it has resulted through growing. I am very active (this is what i think contributes to it the most), I skateboard almost every day as well as work out (my legs especially). The pain is very excruciating when just walking, not to mention skating, working out, and golfing. The doctor recommended standard things such as Advil, tylenol etc...but it has never worked. I have informed my doctor of this many times, but every time she says to just keep taking the Advil. I really feel that cannabis can help with the pain in my knee and was wondering how, if possible, I could get a cannabis card. I feel that if I consult my doctor with this idea she will blow me off and say no so I don't want to go to her with the situation. She is a great doctor overall...I just know that she will not be open to the idea of using cannabis as a method of pain relief. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Obtaining a Medical Cannabis Card

My brother had a condition very similar to yours (they thought it was OSD at first, but changed their minds), and yes cannabis helped him. Hon, I hope you don't end up in a cast like my brother AND father did during their youth! Skateboarding is about the worst thing you could do to your knees!

You may wish to click on the link in my sig and scroll down to "Pain". Print your doc up a few (most are 1 or 2 pagers) and then turn her on to my post. She needs an education! Med schools don't teach about cannabis, so WE have to become our doctor's teachers! Here is the same post as in my link, but over at a Canadian medical site. I don't think your doc is quite ready for C.com - culture shock, ya know! LOL :wtf:

If you are in California, yes, you could get a card. Get a copy of your medical records- just ask! If you feel compelled to give a reason, just say you wish to see a specialist about your knees. Scrape together the cash, check NORML for the list of cannabis friendly doctors, take your records, pay the doc and get legal! As long as you have a legitimate medical problem that cannabis helps, it is pretty straight forward!

And if by some off chance, you "convert" your doctor to our point of view, SHE can give you the recommendation- any doctor of medicine can! I doubt if she will see things our way just yet, usually it takes several exposures to new ideas, before they "take". (Lister and Pasteur come to mind)

So, go get your medical records and get legal! And slow down on the physical stuff! If you aren't careful, you'll end up with a cane in 20 years! - Granny:hippy:

    Obtaining a Medical Cannabis Card

unfortunately I live in a place where my favorite medicine is frowned upon. its a common thing...we are all aware of.

I don't have a pain disorder or anything serious like cancer aids or glacoma but I have been on depression meds and diagonsed with a panic disorder possible m/d etc
AND I HATE ALL THE PILLS!

I would must rather consult with a doc to smoke than be dependant on these scary brain chemical zappers...

would this be possible??? I have read depression can be a diagonsis...any advice/experiences?

good news and im a movin! thanks for any words.

    Obtaining a Medical Cannabis Card

My hubby is on SSI for chronic depression. It is the main thing he got his recommendation for, although at 66, he has his share of physical problems. But the law reads " (l) any other chronic or persistent medical condition that: (ii) if not alleviated may cause serious harm to the patient's safety or physical or mental health." Mental health is covered. Get your behind out here! Bring a copy of any medical records, especially any psychiatric ones. If you ain't got the records, then look for a "clinic" that charges the lowest fee. They tend to be less discriminating about who they give a recommendation to. Avoid Del Norte and Siskiyou counties- not good places for MMJ. San Diego county is "iffy".

And wait til you have that first "legal" joint! :stoned: You won't believe how much paranoia cuts into your high! - Granny:hippy:

Thank you very much Storm Crow! You have been more then helpful and I have printed several documents for my doctor to look at. If she disagrees, I will ask for my medical records and will check out NORML like you suggested. Thanks again for all the help!

If you are as honest and sincere when talking to your doctor as you were posting your issue with complete strangers, then she should be open to the idea. She might not write you the recommendation, but the worst she could do is say no. At the very least she could use you as a lab rat to see how marijuana helps your condition. Good doctors are constantly looking for new research into new drugs so if she is a good doctor she should be happy to have you as her patient! Good luck!

    Obtaining a Medical Cannabis Card

I'm not sure about walking on the sidewalk downtown, I have heard of one person who claims it is okay for him as long as he has his recommendation, but I would assume that depends on your local cops attitude torwards medical marijuana. Personally I think it's disrespectful because marijuana smoke can get others around you high, so I wouldn't do it more out of respect rather than avoiding a legal issue, but I do think it would be smart to not try it. As for on the porch of your apartment, many apartments complexes have rules against drugs, and Prop 215 does not specifically protect you, but even if having your recommendation did I wouldn't do it if the smoke was bothering your neighbors. Many apartment complexes have so many rules that if they really don't like something you are doing they can find another rule you are breaking as a reason to evict you, so for that reason I wouldn't do it unless you know your neighbors are cool with it, as well as your landlord.

In general you should remember that other people might not like smelling marijuana smoke, so it is wise to be respectful of that and keep your medication privately when possible.

I was afraid of going and asking my doctor, since she is good freinds with my dad.Not that I was afraid she would tell him,but the fact thatthey get along so well, they probably have the same way of thinking, and my dad thinks marijuana is bad.
Look online and find a doctor......I did.Pain meds wernt working for me.
