How efficent is an isopropyl alcohol extraction?
Hey,
I'm about to use this guide:
Erowid Cannabis Vault : Info on Making Basic Solvent Extracted Hash #1
I'm wondering if anyone has any information on how long it needs to sit in order to get 99-100% of the cannabinoids out. At the end it says that it will make the weed last twice as long, but can anyone support this claim. Is this a good idea?
Thanks,

I let it sit for 24h in a very slightly warm place, strain, add fresh solvent (just a bit), shake to rinse the plant matter again, strain again, then evaporate in a double boiler (GLASS) over a pan of boiling water.
You MUST use a double boiler as the isopropanol fumes coming off the liquid are HIGHLY flammable and yes, I found this out the scary way.
Iso-hash is most often used to extract psychoactive compounds from trim (waste material left from manicuring the buds) on a small scale. IF you are starting with actual bud, look up 'honey oil'. If you have a large amount of trim, use bubble bags.
The chlorophyll is co-extracted in the iso-hash method and the resultant resin is dark green, gooey, and should be stored in tinfoil in the freezer, as it tends to take on a rather unpleasant smell not unlike a swamp on a hot day.

I advise against any iso/solvent extract. Too many health risks when you can simply make kif, bubble, or butter/oil.
Not enough trim/shake/shit? You shouldn't be trying in the first place then.
I've smoked my own fair share of iso-hash / honey oil......<--my lungs & throat
H2o bubble, butter, oil, and/or kif? Lungs & throat =

I prefer the lazy way of just stuffing some small buds and shake in a quart jar full of Vodka and letting it set the frig for a month. And after straining the taste isn't that bad.

How efficent is an isopropyl alcohol extraction?
I used 99% isopropyl alcohol along with just over a quarter of some very nice bud. I let it sit in a canning jar for 2 days then strained the liquid through a coffee strainer and left it on the stove, in a glass plate, with the exaust running. It took around 5 hours untill all the liquid was gone and i was able to scrape up the goo. It was nice and black, not green like the liquid was initally and provided a very nice smoke however I only had about 1.5g of hash. It fucked 6 seasoned smokers up so I suppose it was worth it.. its just hard to see a quarter turn into 1.5g when you are used to quantifying everything your stash in terms of how much it can be sold for.

The hash looks better and it leaves you with bud.
