Setting up my first cab
Hey everyone,
I've been lurking here for a while and itching to get some growing going... I haven't had my own place until now... so it begins.
I have a 2' x 3' x 6' metal shelf that I will be converting into a cab. Here are my ideas/notes/plans... let me know what you all think!
Size: 2' x 3' x 6' - 2 chamber + 1... 1 flower 1 veg 1 equipment
400w HPS in flower room (can get one $200 w/ Heavy duty ballast + reflector with a 4" hookup)
6x26w veg spectrum CFLs in veg room (already have these in my rubbermaid veg box... currently getting the bagseed ready for my cab)
Dayton fan (suggestions on CFM / wheretobuy.com?)
homemade carbon scrubber
400w for a 2' x 3' space OK?
6x26w CFL (same question): i'm a little worried about this...
Thanks guys!Taiden Reviewed by Taiden on . Setting up my first cab Hey everyone, I've been lurking here for a while and itching to get some growing going... Setting up my first cab
Sounds like a good plan to me. Lighting sounds about right. I would try a cool tube or enclosed hood, and use about a 275 CFM fan to cool the light, and a fairly big oscillating fan to cool the veg section and make the plants rustle, and the same for bud section.
What's a heavy duty ballast. I hope you mean digital or electronic.
I think you are being a little unrealistic about 3 sections in a 6' tall space. I would want at least 3' for each section veg and bloom, and store your stuff in the kitchen or something.

As far as where to buy, your best deals are usually on eBay.

ebay is great for lights.
my 600w digital ballast and 2 hps bulbs setup came out just over 300$
the ballast makes no heat whatsoever, and the light is blinding, but the plant loves it.
just a tip: whatever you see all over the web about germinating in paper towels or similar is useless. if the seeds are valid, they will grow just fine planted in soil the natural way. saves the risk of breaking delicate taproots during the transplant or forgetting to mist on a regular basis

Setting up my first cab
Thanks guys. I just posted a new thread about picking a fan for this cab. As for chamber size, it has worked out that the flowering room has 37" of height, and the veg room has 26"... I'm wondering what you all think of that. As for the fan...
