Question about dual 600 ballast compared to a 1000

I have a 4x5 area to light with 6 buckets, I was looking at running my 400 (over 2) and a 1000 (over 4), but I am not sure I can run two ballast with out some extra wiring, which is not too big of a deal. I seen a dual 600 and thought about splitting that between the 6 of them and maybe just the the 400 for sidelight in the last 4 weeks.

But my question is, would I be loosing much "light" by running the 600's instead of the 1000, and would it matter? Any issue with the dual ballast?

I like the dual 600 because it is switchable MH/HPS, but then again I usually dont flower with this room, I have another setup for that.

Question about dual 600 ballast compared to a 1000

    Dual 600's rock!
They're quite a bit more efficient than separate ballasts, and way more light than a 1000w.
AFIK, they're only for HPS though. You could run a conversion bulb, but they're expensive.
I don't even think anyone makes a 600w MH bulb, unless its very new.

They make a 600 MH. I use 1 with my future brite ballast. Not a conversion bulb. The 600 does a great job on a crop. But if you have means to run 1000,with good ventilation,You'll have denser budding.

This is my concern, but I am also looking for efficiency.

I am barrowing a 1000 ballast now, and I have a 400 ballast, but I am looking at either buying my own 1000 or getting this dual still... I really dont need to Veg with these lights since I have two systems (I run a T5 400W on my veg and then the other setup in my flower).

The dual 600w is WAY better than any one 1000 watt system.
If you're talking about two 1000 watt systems, then yes, it will be better for the plants, but nowhere near as efficient.

Question about dual 600 ballast compared to a 1000

I'm with psteve...dual 600s are great. You actually aren't generating any more light with two 600w bulbs as opposed to a single 1000w...but your plants will be closer to the bulbs. If you've got a good sized grow space like you do, it's easy to forget how fast lumen output disappears with distance. When you've got two bulbs, plants are nearer to at least one of the bulbs than they are with a single bulb and reflector. So whatever light you would â??loseâ? from using a 600w vs. a 1000w would be gained by having your plants a few inches closer. Those few inches mean a lot!

I hope your not talking about Sun Systems GroPro dual 600? (single ballast)

    Lots of problems with those.

That is the one I was looking, what type of problems?

Money really isn't an issue if there is a better one, the more I save grow the less I pay buying. I already know what I spend a year and it sucks, so I am now trying to change that.

Question about dual 600 ballast compared to a 1000

Thanks for the link, that made my decision. I think I will get 2 seperate 600's or run the 1000 with my 400.
